Was hammering Roboquest for a few weeks there, such a fun roguelike, the combat is so good, fun abilities/upgrades etc.

Started Nine Sols a few days ago, excellent metroidvania game, similar vibes to hollow knight with a great parry system kind of like a 2d sekiro in ways.

I have wanted to try out Nine Sols for a bit now. Thanks for the recommendation!

Yeah it's brilliant, can't go wrong with it if you like metroidvanias, definitely one of the best ones I've played.

Just watched an NS trailer + play at your recommendation here and liked what I saw. Thanks.

Caught myself being hypocritical though in initially snickering at protag (a caped or smocked cat?) when in Hollow Knight, which I'd loved, we played as a marshmallowy insect. Suffice to say, I checked myself and got over it, lol. Traversal looks grand.

There's parry, block, and evade in NS, yes?

Roboquest is wicked. If you like it then you'll probably like this too.

Haha I never gave the fact that you are a cat a second thought to be honest Lol. It's kinda relevant to the story, you'll see if you play it.

No blocking, there are different types of parrys and you can dodge.

I've been playing indie after indie. Not much interests me this summer except for Wuchang Fallen Feathers and possibly that Mafia game since I've heard it's more linear and not open world.

Platinumed Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo. Really fun game if you enjoy metroidvanias and games like the old Zeldas. A lot of creativity went into it.

I also just recently bought Lost in Random : The Eternal Die. This game is a blast, surprised me by how well it's made. There's a surprising amount of depth to the builds you can make. I think it might be my favorite roguelike since Hades. I recommend it if you're into those games.

I also just bought Soulstone Survivors because the demo from a month ago was really enjoyable and I see myself sinking a lot of time into it on my Portal. If you like Vampire Survivors give it a try. There's a demo. The reviews on steam are great too.

Just bought Soulstone Survivors on your rec and played 1 game, I can immediately tell it is digital crack already lol

About 20h in on Lost Crown (Prince of Persia) and having so much fun.

Not wanting to overthink it, abilities and traversal just look and feel really good. Recanvassing map regions in Metroidvania style is actually enjoyable and not a tedium. Boss fights are a good challenge too with satisfying platforming.

I’m playing the game in Persian for immersion but the story is too meh to bother much with outside knowing a few main chars.

This is the thing that confounds: Lost Crown launched to both player and critical acclaim. Fenyx Rising was also liked by players, proving a hit in flailing Ubi reputation repair.

So what did Ubi do?

They cancelled the Fenyx sequel and disbanded the entire game team that developed LC. Derp.

I’ve no doubt they’ll reveal a Far Cry 7 trailer at some point with the same PS3-era cinematics and snooze blueprint gameplay. All of Ubi’s issues stem from management and blowfish decision-making like this. Textbook downfall material.

Ubi should go all in on fresher IP like above at the expense of played-out portfolio juggernauts; unshackling their dev talent would be smart, too.

Lost in Random: The Eternal Die

I believe this is a sequel to to some game I never played, but that doesn't matter. What this is, is the best "Hades-like" game I've played. It's a dungeon crawling rogue-like, and it's damn good. Some rough beginnings, but once you settle in and figure out all of its systems, it comes together really well. Go to dungeon, make it as far as you can while collecting skills to upgrade your current run, while also collecting materials to upgrade your character permanently. Die. Level up. Repeat.

It's certainly not as polished as "Hades", but it gets the job done. The character movement is bit loose and doesn't feel as tight, but you just have to adjust. It's combat is good, but it does get a little too obsessed with projectiles. You get four basic weapon types that are easy to unlock(and VERY similar to Hades), and they all have very different styles to mess around with. It also has a hub world that is very similar to "Hades", with dialogue up the ass, and just a general feeling that even if you're not making progress in the game, you're making progress in the world. It's always giving you something to keep you going, albeit the story is nowhere near the quality of "Hades". It's still a nice touch, though.

Now, it is significantly more difficult. The first boss has kicked my ass so many times, and it took me quite a bit to even get there. It's two guys with gigantic health pools that team up after you've managed to get their tag team models down to half health. It's a war of attrition, and one hell of a check at the end of the first dungeon.

Ultimately, if you liked "Hades", you'll like this. 8/10.

What I'm getting from this is "just play Hades"

Nah. It's a different flavor, and if like me, you've played Hades to death, it's a solid alternative that gives you a fresh landscape and some new mechanics to mess with. It's like "Souls-likes". Most don't surpass the Fromsoft king, but some are very good, and offer you a brand new experience with familiar gameplay that are totally worth your time. That's where I'd put this game.

I'm actually surprised there aren't more of these types of games, or at least notable ones. It's a great addictive formula that seems hard to fuck up.

Ohhhh I understand it much better now and will look into the game as soon as I get a chance today! Thanks man!

There's definitely blocking. You'll take "damage" that will slowly recover on its own if you can avoid taking an unblocked hit in the meantime.

Been making my way slowly through KCD2. I'm clearly under leveled because I got stuck on a quest and just couldn't do it. I had to fight like 4 guys at once even people online were talking about how hard it is. Finally found a way to cheat through it by jumping on a cart. Going to slow down now and do some side quest to get leveled up a bit.

Nioh 2 - I'm 14 bosses in but I somehow didn't find the obsidian samurai. I found a boss list and I never fought this boss it's weird.

Hitman 3 - I started this up as well because well why not. I played it originally on Gamepass when I was on PC and loved it but I'm going through it again now. This game and the different ways you can move through a level are amazing. Can't wait to see what they do with James Bond.

Never really treated that like a block. I thought it was just a mistimed parry, never thought you could just hold the button.

To be fair, you're right. The intention is to parry in virtually every situation. I do recall blocking saving my tail a couple of times, such as being at 1hp and somehow avoiding death when hit without parrying, but its also been 6+ months since playing so maybe my memory is fuzzy. In any case, Nine Sols is awesome!
