Elden Ring

Third time's a charm...hopefully. Game has tapped me out twice. I tried a no shield cool guy build. Wrecked. I tried sword and board. A little better, but still annoying enough that I just didn't have the patience for it. So I did something I've never done before in these games...I tried a m-m-Mage. I've never messed with any of this shit in the From games, because I just couldn't see sacrificing my health flasks for magic flasks, and it all seemed a bit overwhelming with all the powers you get, and the different strengths for those powers you have to upgrade. I've also heard that it puts these games on "easy" mode, and buddy, they weren't lying. I'm scorching through annoying mobs with ease. Oh', nice gank squad you got there...be a shame if my spell one hit every last one of you...you fucks.

It's a brand new game now. I am Gandalf. Name of the game is staying the fuck out of the pocket, avoiding the occasional distance closing attack, and just cheesing the shit out of fools at a distance, like I was born in the "Shrine of Amana". Oh', it feels so good just destroying those assholes on horseback. We ain't dancing anymore, dickheads. It's you vs my beam of death, and you lose.

I'm sure it'll get a lot tougher, but coming from my struggles in my first couple of attempts, this is so friggin' satisfying. I can actually grind a bit now. I do believe I will make it past the halfway point of the first castle this time, LOL.

Currently playing Lies of P (about 20h in) and want to get as deep as I can, then see where I'm at come Thursday when Ghost of Yotei goes live for campaign + MP.

Just started Hades 2. Just an hour or two in but it seems to have the potential to be as good as the first game, which was an all timer.

I also just finished Shinobi. Had a great time with it - it’s an incredibly well drawn, beautiful game that really evokes the spirit of the games that inspired it from the 90s. The platforming had its challenges, but I pretty much never found the combat challenging. Every boss was first try or close to it.

Also messing around with Lies of P but I’m early and it doesn’t have its hooks in me yet. It seems good but mostly just makes me want to do another Bloodborne playthrough

30 hours into BL4... Level 27 now

20 hours into DL the beast... Level 7

I find myself only wanting to play dying light at night. Adds to the atmosphere.

Beat Lies of P last night and goofed around in NG+1 for about an hour.

Very good game and did the C19 Italian novel honorably, IMO. Ending was powerful. I refused to give my heart.

Despite it being derivative of obvious influences, it offers enough to stand on its own.

The weapon durability + special grindstone mechanics were cool.

I also think UI assets (all the small stuff like loading screen icon et cetera) are across-the-board elegant, lifting the whole experience.

For those who'd played, my fave WPNs were Acidic Great Curved Sword and Proof of Humanity. I also off-handed the Dancer Sword, which resembled a Persian scimitar and really helped me better manage narrow corridors (wall collision is atrocious in some places).

Toughest boss was hands-down Laxasia for me. Wanted to tap, TBH. In general, screen particle FX (like her electro ATKs) and clutter as well as boss sizes relative to camera were killjoys at times because I can't parry or dodge what I can't visually or audibly track.

I have one sweeping critique (tangential) about boss design but I'll probably save that for the LoP game thread so I can rant a little.

P.S. Sophia, page me, baby.

Managed to finally get through RDR 2

Great story, annoying gameplay with all micromanaging and janky controls

How do you the new spoiler thing? I feel I need to abuse it

At the end of Chapter 4 in Black Myth Wukong. I think I've hit the wall where I have to go back and clear out the previous stages to level up lol. This game is pretty damn difficult.

Forza Horizon 4.

I didn't give this much of a chance beforehand because I had other games to play, but as I have recently bought a new 65 inch TV, I gave it a go.

The game is absolutely beautiful, the world looks far better than in 5.

Gameplay is pretty tight, though it's rather unforgiving. I'm not a fan of rubber banding or the checkpoints, though the tracks are nice.

Sound is alright. Radio is a mixed bag but nothing too heavy. I prefer Timeless.

Probably because I'm English, but I don't really have much of an affection for Mexico. Looking forward to 6 in Japan.

Just finished Metroid Fusion for the first time on the Steam deck. Great game but it's not without its incredibly annoying bits. Spider boss Yakuza, I'm looking at you.

Providing the servers don't shite themselves like they normally do on launch day, I'll probably be head first into Battlefield 6 this evening. The beta was a blast.

Assassins Creed: Unity

Had a bit of an itch for some old school AC, so I figured I'd give this one a try. Never bothered with it, since it had a reputation of being a completely broke mess, that all but killed this style of AC. Heard they made a lot of fixes, and the game is now considered a bit underrated.

Well, I won't get to find out how "underrated" it may be, because the game is still broken as all fuck. I can't imagine how bad it was at launch, if this is considered acceptable. NPC's glitching out all over the place, delayed inputs, wonky stealth that has NPC's not just seeing you through walls, but attacking you through walls, LOL. The final straw was at the end of what I suspect was the big end of the tutorial missions. I had to escape a prison with some dude, and at the end all I had to do was make a simple leap of faith out of the prison to end it. Annnnd...my guy got to the edge of the wall and froze. Just him, too. The game was running fine, and he was just striking a pose. Can't move, can't get to the pause menu to restart from the checkpoint, because it was a "cinematic" moment. Quit to desktop. Never think about playing it again.

Still broken after all these years/10

It's most certainly one of the greatest games ever made. Worth finishing that and the DLC.

If you're doing mage thing, try and complete the questline that gets you access to the Glintstone Kris. Beastly INT dagger that lays waste to most things. I believe it's the Sellen/Jerren questline.

Make sure you use your spirit calls as aid, they're a huge help.

Yeah, so I keep hearing, LOL. Unfortunately, I'm coming to the realization that I just might never get into it. The mage was easier to use, but got boring real quick, since there is really only one "glass cannon" strategy to using them. I love/hate the open world, as it's neat when you stumble upon some new area or dungeon, but there's a LOT of aimless wandering in between that, that almost makes me feel like I'm lost in a forest just going in circles. My complaints about the cheap enemy placement, overpowered spammy basic enemies, and gank squads around every corner, remain unchanged.

It's one of those games I really want to like, but given that this is my third time going at it, without ever getting over that hump where these games get stupidly addictive, I think it might just not be for me. Same exact result every time. Play about 12 hours, clear the same spots to get the same rewards, die to Tree Sentinel a million times, beat Margit, get to halfway point of castle, fatigue sets in, have no desire to continue.

Ah' well, it'll always be there if I get another itch for it. One of these days it might click.

That's fair. So many options out there today it's mind blowing. Coming from the NES era, it's been quite a ride!

If you had to pick between Wukong and Khazan which game is overall better? @Valhoven @Dizzy @Zazen @method115 @mb23100

I prefer challenge first and foremost and replayability/build customization.

Let a brother know! They both look generally fantastic and I'm sure I'll play both at some point.
I wasn't tagged but figured I'd give my opinion anyway haha.

Wukong was my '24 GOTY. I'm a Souls player and believe me, despite it being just a staff, there are SO many build possibilities especially since you can upgrade armor, obtain new staves and upgrade those, and mix and match for an optimal build of your style.

Certainly appreciate it, big souls guy myself.

Did you play Khazan and have an opinion on it as well?
