Media We finna act like Alex didn't get the only TD of the fight?

While Poatan's offensive output was half of what it usually is stats-wise (probably from being hurt early) and he still made it a very close fight. He certainly answered a lot of grappling questions by having a 100% TDD rate. Inb4 some stupid cope "uhm ank was just trying to tire him out not secure it".

Hope he rests up and has a good camp for the rematch, will be the only LHW fight that interests me for a while outside of Khalil vs Hill and Ulberg vs Jan.

And commentary completely ignored it. DC needs to go. His biased wrestling commentary is obnoxious
100% agree that DC is just not good on the mic. I'd rather have almost anyone in his spot, he always seems fucking drunk without even taking in his wrestler bias while commentating

Ank didn't really try to chain wrestle, he just would go for a takedown and if he didn't get it, he'd just use the attempt to hold him or disengage and do it again. Either way it stifled Poatan, and drained him.

At the end of the day, the only interesting thing about the fight was that both handled the others main strength better than the naysayers thought they would. Who would have known, high level (boring) MMA fight happened.

I'd have to watch it again with sound, but I thought that it happened after the buzzer so maybe technically not counted.

Interesting question though, would you score 4 minutes of trying to take someone down but not able to or vs a last second takedown that does nothing? Always learn ways to score a fight every year.

I wasn't bored. At all.

I just wanted more action from Ank in the Fifth.

Even though he lost Alex answered a lot of questions about his TDD and grappling. Anyone who still thinks he's the no grappling kickboxer from years ago is braindead.

But are you going to ignore the fact he lost because he had to defend against those TDs and Ank was much more effective in the striking because of his TD threat?

If Alex fights Ank in a kickboxing only match up he probably wins right? Well virtually all of Alex's MMA fights have been kickboxing matches. Khalil didn't need to tell us he wasn't going to go for a TD.

Not a huge DC fan on the mic, but I also think context is important here: Wasn't the "TD" at the last second of a round, so he didn't go to the ground, secure it, or do anything with it? Not sure why we would make a big deal out of that, as we certainly wouldn't if anyone else did it.

He also showed good takedown defense, but damn, Ankalaev didn't even need the takedowns and beat him at his own game.

Seems like Poatan didn't want to get caught off balance in the middle of the octagan, which resulted in less offense and "running". If he uses his usual aggressive style in the rematch, he'll open himself up to be taken down.

Clearly he's improved his TDD since the Jan fight, but Ank can now somehow absorb low kicks well.

He’s still the no grappling, one dimensional kickboxer. He doesn’t have a plan B.
