Was Ryan Couture Thrown to the Wolves?

When did this happen?

Swanson is the only person to ko Pearson and he has pretty decent power. Id say his Jaw is fine.

Oops. Was wrong. Miller just choked him out, but Miller could have easily finished him with strikes then. Chin is suspect.

i dunno man
kj is pretty good
id love him and pearson next
that could be close

Why, though?

Just because? Do you have a reason? I'm desperately needing someone to explain this rationale to me.

Not sure really, Noons has impressed me a fair few times, Pearson less so, maybe due pearson facing better comp dunno, just how I thought about it. Wasn't a long thought out conclusion or anything.

It seems the general opinion is against me so maybe I should have a another good look at both, but goddam there is a lot of talented LWs hard to keep track of them all.

Pearson just connected too many times and adapted to Couture's timing. Many fights still he might be a late blooming talent like his father.

I'm not sure that Ross Pearson is a "Wolf", but yeah Couture could have started off a bit smaller. The last name gave him a bigger opportunity he would have got otherwise.

Pearson isn't a world beater. He's never fought for the title in the UFC, he's popular in Britain and as everyone knows, Britain is in Europe. Randy used to fight in Europe a lot as he lived there during his army days, spoke some German etc., UFC was probably hoping to cash in on his name recognition, if he won, great they'll give him an even higher profile fight and make even more money of the Couture name, if he lost no biggie I don't think he is signed to anything like the Hector Lombard contract or even Gilbert Melendez's contract.

Melendez was the only Strikeforce champion given an immediate title shot, that isn't an accident, that is reflective of how the UFC matchmakers think. Melendez in California can sell tickets, the fight isn't on PPV, it is a lot easier to headline let alone co-main event when not on PPV.

PPV is funny as only Americans and Canadians have to pay for it, yet it clearly is the most profitable distribution method. I wonder why the UFC or Boxing doesn't try harder to go PPV in Europe and Asia?

Soccer has many, many networks but for the world's most popular sport, it isn't a PPV money maker, though it does support premium specialty channels. I think because boxing/MMA is a not a team sport and certain fighters have become almost larger than life in the Ali or Mike Tyson mould that punters as the British call them are willing to pay just to see one person fight, neither Ross Pearson nor Ryan Couture are of that magnitude of importance. This was a minor card in Sweden featuring Swedish and European fighters. GSP, Manny, Floyd are in another league as far as drawing power.

to long of a read for this subject, ryan couture looks like he had NO standing striking skills besides trying to push his opponent into the fence and dirty box.

I wouldn't say he was thrown to the wolves. Pearson is kind of a middle of the pack fighter. He isn't exactly in the mix yet. I like his skills don't get me wrong but that's reality.

Agreed. And Ross isnt on anyone's top 10 list right? I thought it was a great fight to see exactly where Couture was at.

All the other strikeforce guys have been performing fairly well. Why give couture a can?

A step down maybe. Not much

Well, Ryan was coming off a "win" over KJ who IMO is on the same level as Pearson so it wasn't really a step-up.

Needless to say, both of them destroyed his boring ass.

I like how the picture shows a clearly illegal shot.

Pearson is a good fighter, but he's not exactly "elite." He did look very good against G-Sot, but he had lost 3 of 5 before that, including being stopped twice in that span. And G-Sot was on a 2-fight losing streak going into the Pearson fight as well, so it wasn't like Pearson was coming off a win over some juggernaut. I don't know that I'd consider Pearson any more highly regarded than Noons, Couture's last opponent (although I did think Noons should have gotten the win).

+1 - this says it all

He was coming off a win against KJ Noons. How low tier of an opponent do you think he should have had? Should they have brought in someone just for him to beat like Strikeforce did?

why would the UFC need to baby a guy that probably wasn't even UFC caliber to being with just because his dad is a name?

The UFC will have to bring in a low tier fighter from outside the organization if they want to build Ryan. Today, there's no one on UFC's roster that he can beat.
