Was Ryan Couture Thrown to the Wolves?

In short? Yes. Pearson's standup easily dwarfed his on paper, and he's got great tdd. Couture literally had almost no chance in my eyes. How could he? He hasn't fought near the caliber of fighters Pearson has. It was a ridiculously uneven matchup, there was no doubt about that.

Ryan is not UFC level fighter this is known. He got a shot because of his name. 30 years old and still green?

Firstly, I wanna say what a satisfying victory it was to watch Ross Pearson defeat Couture. I was telling my mate American mate as we were watching that Pearson's superior boxing was gonna destroy Couture and leave him in a pile on the floor ... and I was proven right.

My mate was going on about how Couture is the son of Randy Couture and was caught up in the "name" etc. but I just felt that he was still too green and hadn't had enough experience to be sharing the octagon with someone as dangerous as Pearson, especially after watching what Pearson did to G-Sot.

I was looking at Ryan Couture's record and thought it was strange that he was co-main event (famous daddy or not). I also thought it strange that his debut in the UFC was against Ross "Real Deal" Pearson.

Pearson came in in great shape whereas Couture looked a bit flabby jumping up and down on the spot before the fight. After the 1st round, I was getting a bit worried as Couture was actually having some success with that grinding, dirty boxing tactics ... but in the second round, Pearson found his range and started stringing together those combinations and inevitably took him out.

I know Dana White and Randy Couture have had their differences lately, do you reckon Dana "threw" Randy's son to the wolves by giving him a fight against such a dangerous opponent on his UFC debut???

My thoughts exactly.

I used to think Noons was a great stiker but idk anymore, I think he is highly overrated. He has stunning hair Ill give him that, but hes a good fighter with good skills and exceptional tdd. Imo watching both Ross and KJ, I would say that Ross is a much better fighter and a better striker for mma.

I've had him in the top of my p4p hair list for years.

Couture at best is at the bottom of the UFC roster. Pearson, who may not be at the very top, is still a very solid fighter.

From that perspective he was thrown to the wolves.

lmao

Pearson had an extremely close stand up fight with edson barboza. That's elite in my book

All of the Strikeforce imports have been getting decent competition, I really don't see what the big deal is.

To me Noons > Pearson.

Just how I see it.

Either way this fight wasn't a gimme for Ross.

Maybe if Randy was stll in good books his son could have got an easier fight, but maybe not.

Why, though?

Just because? Do you have a reason? I'm desperately needing someone to explain this rationale to me.

noons looked great against Nick the first time and he looked like Anderson Silva against Jorge Gurgel but hes looked like shit since then.

It certainly looked that way to me but the UFC does this sometimes. Give them a hard fight out of the gate and if they lose then at least it was to a good fighter and then they can give them a lesser guy.

If you give them a lesser guy out of the gate and they lose there is really nowhere to go. I think it was a good first fight for Ryan to get into the swing of things.

Nice signature.

Come on guys, it was a pretty competitive fight before the finish. I don't think it was a complete mismatch.

I dont think so. Everyone is good in the ufc. If he would have beat up the worst in the ufc he would have had to fight Pearson next.

Well the problem is he got that win over Noons, I would love to see Noons vs pearson

I think so.

Especially since many believe that he lost his last fight against Noons. I don't understand why you would give him a step up in competition after that. They should have given him a step down just to be safe. Let him gain experience and build him up slowly.
