Firstly, I wanna say what a satisfying victory it was to watch Ross Pearson defeat Couture. I was telling my mate American mate as we were watching that Pearson's superior boxing was gonna destroy Couture and leave him in a pile on the floor ... and I was proven right.
My mate was going on about how Couture is the son of Randy Couture and was caught up in the "name" etc. but I just felt that he was still too green and hadn't had enough experience to be sharing the octagon with someone as dangerous as Pearson, especially after watching what Pearson did to G-Sot.
I was looking at Ryan Couture's record and thought it was strange that he was co-main event (famous daddy or not). I also thought it strange that his debut in the UFC was against Ross "Real Deal" Pearson.
Pearson came in in great shape whereas Couture looked a bit flabby jumping up and down on the spot before the fight. After the 1st round, I was getting a bit worried as Couture was actually having some success with that grinding, dirty boxing tactics ... but in the second round, Pearson found his range and started stringing together those combinations and inevitably took him out.
I know Dana White and Randy Couture have had their differences lately, do you reckon Dana "threw" Randy's son to the wolves by giving him a fight against such a dangerous opponent on his UFC debut???
