Do you guys ever get recurring dreams? Like dreams with the same theme but different situations. The theme of my recurring dream is being unprepared. Getting into something and realizing I haven't thought it through.

Like last night I was on vacation in Hawaii. Good dream. Even a love interest. Nice vacation. Then I realize I only have a one way ticket. How am I gonna get back? How did I forget that? Everybody else has a roundtrip but I didn't think about that. Then I panic. I have had this dream in many different manifestations and I think holds some psychological truth. I am terrified of being unprepared. That is why I overthink things. I emphasize thinking over doing and that is a problem. Abe Lincoln said give him 6 hours to cut down a tree and he will spend the first 5 sharpening the axe. That is me. It's like I cannot act unless I can be perfect. And perfect doesn't exist and is self defeating. It is unattainable.

You will notice I post a lot of people who are about hard work and action. It is what I seek and need.

"Thinking is easy, acting is difficult, and to put one's thoughts into action is the most difficult thing in the world."

-Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

“Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action. ”

William James

Successful people are not afraid to fail. I am terrified of it.

I have a recurring dream that I'm not a fat dude stuck in a dead end job...

And then my lunch break ends and I go back to being depressed as fuck and annoyed I can't afford more ammo to go shooting more consistently.

Eminem is also an example of what I am talking about. You know how much shit he must have heard on his way up? Being a white rapper. Being compared to Marky Mark and Vanilla Ice. The horror of that. He has endurance. He has will. I would have quit long ago. Eminem is a good example of being comfortable in the uncomfortable.

I admire Madonna too. How many people come to NYC and say they are gonna be big? She actually did that. Through sheer force of will. She fuckin insisted on it. Get me a woman like that and I will conquer the world. This is part of Trump's problem. A weak woman. Obama and Clinton have strong wives.

Taleb is a contrarian but makes a good point about Trump. Trump has no idea what it is like to not be the boss. To have a supervisor. That is why he acts the way he does.

Same fuckin thing man. Getting them in and out is a fuckin chore. All hours of the night.

Maybe these are only good for warm weather, but one has sure saved me a ton of aggravation.

No more of this shit in the middle of the night.

Did you stop by for a visit?

As for dreams, I used to have one. I'd either be chased around by big cats (lions, tigers, panthers, etc.) or bears. I'd seemingly get to safety only for them to still be able to get to me. Then back to more scrambling around while always narrowly escaping. Had this dream dozens of times and figured it was somehow stress induced. I'd wake up all agitated. In my waking state I decided I needed to just stop running because it was a dream and they couldn't hurt me. Soon after that when the dream returned I was able to somehow (no clue how) remember not to run. In fact I not only didn't run, I reached out and pet the big cat on the head. Haven't had the dream since and it's been a least 10-12 years.

I have heard that dream from so many people. Scrambling away from animals. I don't get that one. That is your problem. lol. Your body knows more than you do. Think of your body like conservation of energy laws. That is Freud and Jung. Energy is never destroyed. It is only converted. And it can pop up anywhere.

'Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth later in uglier ways.' -Freud

Yes, a dream is like a symptom. That is how Freud would suggest to cure it. To relive it and make it right. A bad memory is like a kink in a hose that throws everything off. Nothing will be right until you fix that kink.

Its funny how modern society discredits Freud when his methods were talking and drugs. Same thing we are doing today. Freud was ahead of his time.

Like I said, it seemed stress induced. I took it to symbolize a loss of control/safety/comfort and the fear/anxiety it produces. It's not like I was reliving some cat or bear attack from my childhood.

The most interesting question to me is, where did that narrative come from? Why do so many people have that dream? Where did we learn it? Dreams have logic to them. They aren't randomly thrown together. There is a logical thread to them. Not just random thoughts.

I know, the problem was made symbolic and you tamed it. I didnt actually think you have been chased by wild animals. Just like I have never been to Hawaii. Freud called symbolism the logic of dreams.

It's fairly primal. Death by animal has been a concern for people historically. Tigers in India I believe still kill a staggering number. Seems like something we could all share/relate to, more or less. As opposed to a dream where you struggle to get your computer coding done by the deadline.

Every once in a while I dream I'm back in school taking a test and don't know what's going on. Might have had that naked in public dream a few times too. lol

Huh, my cats are very affectionate and vocal. Always purring and rubbing up on me when I come around. Not quite as much as the dogs, but still very affectionate.

What court do you clerk in? Circuit, district, other? I know out here the circuit court clerks and bailiffs make decent pay, but the district not so much. But they hire the district clerks into circuit.

This is why I think narratives change with ages. The school dream. Classic example. Many people have had the dream they were naked at school or at work. I doubt cavemen had those dreams. They adjust to the times.

It is heuristics. For example, you are deserted on a sandy beach and there is a cave you want to explore. How do you make sure you don't get lost? Western children answer this question much more accurately than Asians. Why? Because of Hansel and Gretel. They reference the breadcrumb heuristic. And the Asian kids are better at solving problems of buoyancy because of the old story about finding out the mass of something by how much water it displaces. Western kids have rarely heard that story and therefore dont have the heuristic to solve the problem.

I used to get that one, now I get the “cop equivalent” which is where I’m on duty and something happens and somehow my holster is empty. Strange.

So are mine. Purring is actually a kind of begging. Of whining. It is to get what they want. They did a study on the acoustics shit of crying babies and purring cats and it is the same. When a cat is purring, he often wants something.

Superior Court dealing with adult felonies.

Just county level shit and in a smaller WA county at that.

I watched a good documentary on apes and language. A chimp who could sign. I am often skeptical of scientists like this because they want to prove a breakthrough. But this scientist surprised me at the end by being real. He was watching the chimp sign one day and it dawned on him. All this chimp was, was a brilliant begger. It vaguely did motions that humans wanted to and was therefore rewarded for it. It was a sophisticated form of begging. It didn't actually understand anything. Great insight and honesty from that scientist.

Hmmm and there’s no room for advancement or raises? Or maybe you’d have to move to get into a higher court?

That is what Taleb calls silent evidence. People who prevent things are rarely credited. If he would have shown that chimp could understand language, he would be a star. But if he disproves it, it means nothing. He gets no credit.

A good example of this is the soviet operator who singlehandly had to decide whether this missile attack from the US was real or a malfunction. He bet on malfunction instead of launching Russia's nukes. He was right. Do people know his name? Of course not. But he saved the world by good judgement in the worst conditions possible.
