War Room OT Discussion v4

I was extremely pissed about Comey over that, but you can't honestly believe he was attempting to get Trump elected, can you? He got put in a ridiculously bad spot and made the wrong decision.

I honestly 100% believe he was making a consciously political decision that he knew was a farce to disadvantage the opponent party.

Nah, it's likely because he found out that Andrew McCabe sat on potentially harmful evidence against Hillary Clinton for three weeks, and had to make a show out of re-opening the investigation as to not appear biased and corrupt, in case that information ever got out.

It looks like he was pushed into it.

No matter what he did, there was going to be legit criticism.

How so? Does it invalidate Comey's tweet magically?
Definitely not, it's just a poorly chosen sentence to finish that thought.

I'm kind of surprised he tweeted that. Dude is usually very reserved, so either he's depressed about being on the sidelines, or he has the inside track on just how bad this attack on the FBi is.

Or he can't put the goddamn bottle down.

I know it's bad of me but I just assume outright that most high ranking political and law enforcement guys (like national LEA) are alchys.

Kind of random lol. I didn't see anything drunky in that tweet. Did you?

No... it's just me losing any filter I normally have on "did what I just say or type sound dumb?" because it's the end of my work week and I'm looking forward to killing copious amount of Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks in AC:Origins when I get home.

The other thing too is it might not looking drunky in the "lke... dde, I am SSSSSSOOOOOOODDDDDRRRRUUUUNNNKKKK" type post but drink just enough and your ability to go "should I do this?" goes away.

Why do you think so many infantry types end up sleeping with fat chicks their first year in and marrying strippers?

Vague institutional pressure doesn't excuse it, in my opinion. The head of the FBI should be sovereign, and his working knowledge of the matter and the clear and wide-ranging political implications of the announcement should have made the balancing test completely lopsided in terms of political effect versus importance in law enforcement.

Him now playing the "people over party" tune is despicable to me.

To be fair, that's a supply and demand kinda thing.

Comey has been through some outrageous bullshit in his career, and I've never seen him make what looks like a drunken decision. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he was being sober and sincere.

It's not vague institutional pressure; it's specific leaks and threats of leaks from people who have carried this out before. So the natural question then is why not just go all-out in trying to investigate True Pundit and who is leaking to Giuliani, right? But what would the reaction to that be? Look at what's happening with Mueller. A lifelong Republican appointed by Republicans to investigate Trump and employing Republicans in the process is almost universally regarded by right-wingers as a left-wing activist because the investigation is turning stuff up. A crackdown on corrupt pro-Trump agents right before the election while both candidates are being investigated (I think the Russian investigation would have come out in that process) would lead to absolute chaos.

I must say, you are much more forgiving than I am. And I pride myself on my relativism and Hegelian dialectics.

I don't know what to say. I think he was stuck in an impossible situation. "Thomas Paine" and agents who were leaking to him and Giuliani should be brought to justice. I think Comey was biased and made a decision with really bad consequences for the country, but I also think he was doing the best he could and A) knows the job better than I do and B) has information that none of us have. Also note that I don't mean "biased" in the @HereticBD or @waiguoren way, where you just defend your team no matter what and knowingly make false claims as part of that (and don't even care if you look ridiculous in the process). I mean that he was genuinely more worried about one set of consequences than the other because of where his affinities are. More like this:

As a side note: the appropriation of Thomas Paine by the reactionary right is a travesty in American political history. One of the true great American leftists.

Give two false claims I have made.

Give two false claims I have made.

What I specifically had in mind in using you as an example of someone willing to look ridiculous out of tribalism was your support of the anti-Trump FBI conspiracy theory. You also were pretty funny in the immigration thread (Dreamers are adults now so stop correctly saying they were brought over as kids! Some of them who have never committed crimes before could still commit crimes in the future!).

You've been strawmanning me a lot recently. What gives? I don't recall doing that to you. I'm here for info and reasonable discussion.

The reason I engage with you and not some of the other leftists is I think you have the capacity to use logic and be fair to the other side. If that's wrong it's too boring for me and I have to move on.

Not sure where you see a strawman. Seems like you just randomly throw that accusation out sometimes. Also, your claim here is odd considering that in that same thread you made up a position and attributed it to me out of the blue.
