Let's take two examples from each end of the spectrum. First, take two good friends, and one of them one day tells the other that he's always thought he was a liar and a generally bad person, and this is motivated by a disagreement they have. Second, let's take an antagonist who is consistently an asshole and a cheat, but is tolerated for other reasons, and a couple of people he was an asshole to say that he was an asshole.

The situations you're comparing are not very different from those two examples. You know it's a terrible comparison, but again, you're looking for the meme-y cheap shot.

Fawlty: Not being in an argument or having had any recent disagreements with a purported friend, but randomly calling him a "bitter socialist" out of nowhere and saying he's a miserable and unhappy person because he was in a disagreement with JVS about whether it was reasonable for simpletons to think Hillary would be more hawkish than Trump, who has now shown himself to be a bigger hawk beyond any reasonable arguments to the contrary.

Also, FWIW, I've never seen JVS seriously say that Wai is "legit retarded" (but obviously may have missed it) and doubt he really thinks that. JVS has repeatedly defended Wai as a better-than-average poster and a good person at heart, a characterization that I agree with. I, however, was being earnest. JVS and I may someday fall in bro love and begin vacationing together in Paris and I would likely still think he, for all his talents, has NPD.

Yeah, maybe. I honestly haven't gotten into it all that much. I know likes to play heel a bit. On partisan politics I get the impression a lot of his takes are half-serious gamesmanship.
