You need to go back...

To your old name

Nope. I love my new name. I kept the same avatar so people would know. I would have liked to change it. Probably to a photoshop of Tom Cruise giving a guy a reacharound.

Nah, sodapopinski got paranoid about "the man" watching him and changed his name to @in the to obfuscate searches. It was one of the weirder turns of that period of time, that's for sure.

And then got banned?

Because I know the guy who used to be soda came back here under a throwaway name about a year ago and started harassing people for commenting on his racist turn. Posted stuff about Pinochet on my wall and so on.

Yeah, he was legit nuts. I think something traumatic happened to him when he was a child. He basically thought life should be a Disney movie. That’s usually indicative for f someone who missed out on their childhood.

The crazy thing is that he was perfectly normal until gamergate happened. Something about feminists coming for vidya convinced him that the political end times were coming. You could track the decline in real time.

He was a good dude, but eventually I reached a point where I was like "Ok, this shit is stupid" and he never did. That was the inflection point between us tbh.

The way that whole shitshow STARTED was a legitimate thing, people basically bribing reviewers and shit for good reviews and no one talking about it. The way it spiraled was dumb and ended up giving MORE ammo to the Sarkesians of that portion of the world.

He wasn't banned, you can still go to his account. He dipped of his own volition. Maybe he just forgot his account?

Although Pinochet bullshit sounds like @TheStruggle (or @GetTheseHands). HE got banned for going full Pinochet. Dude was actually devolving into a fascist, which was hilarious because he regularly would bitch about whether stuff was in the constitution or not.

No, this was definitely sodapop. He came in and rehashed some specific argument he had with @Quipling about one calling the other a :eek::eek::eek: or something, and directly messaged me about a post I made in reference to the thread he got temp banned in.

100% correct. That's how I got into it. Hell, that's how I discovered Totalbiscuit. Unfortunately it was also the beginnings of the alt-right since Milo, Sargon, Vox, Cernovich, etc co-opted it into racial identarian bullshit. When I got wind of that, it was a fast withdrawal on my part. The impressionable cats ate it up though, as you can obviously see.

Ah, yeah I didn't know all that.

Due to what he did to his account, I'm willing to put money on it that he uses that username elsewhere and didn't want streams to cross. He had enough info buried in there that you could dox him if you really wanted to. That's his own fault though. It's a real shame how people get wrapped up.

From my exposure to it on the outside (I don't play video games), it at the very least shined a light on some virulent and cringey misogyny in the video gaming community. I mean, given the composition and social features of the community, it was predictable anyways, but some of the sexism that sprouted out of that (and still springs up when it gets brought up) was pathetic.

That's because you weren't there at the start of it.

It started because some female video game developer (can't even remember her name now) made some platform indy game that legitimately was, just... awful. Gameplay wise it was mediocre at it's best downright trash at it's worst and it ALSO tried to do the preachy feminism shtick that people just generally are turned off by in media.

THEN it came out that she was sleeping with reviewers to get positive reviews. THAT's what set the whole shit off but then Vox and Milo got involved and it turned to shit.

Zoe Quinn, that was the dev lady's name.

@Falsedawn I basically summed it up right? Cause I know girls that play games (some more than me, some that make some money on the side on Twitch by being legit gamers and not showing their tits constantly like other thots on Twitch do) that were ranting and raving about it just as badly as the guy's were. Some more vehemently straight up going "this is why so many idiots call gamer girls whores"

Yeah, I get that. I know the skeleton outline of what happened. Central controversy aside, it still showed some pretty gross behavorial trends.

Once you get Milo and Vox involved in shit like that though the ones that were focused on what Quinn did got out shouted by the idiots.

More or less, yeah.

The highlight of the shitstorm was Anita Sarkeesian playing Hitman: Absolution and being like "SEE YOU CAN KILL ALL THE WOMEN WITH NO REPERCUSSIONS, THIS IS SEXIST" as the score went down for every non-target that got killed.

Like come the hell on, lmao.

That didn't really happen, though. She was "sleeping with" a lot of people, but none of them reviewed her game (one was a gaming journalist, but he didn't review her game).

I mean, you SAY that...

I'm not gonna say that I know sherdog's implementation of Xenforo on the back end, but that looks like an unbanned account to me. In my layman's opinion, of course.

My mistake, I thought his old account was deleted at his request when he made the new one. Looks like the old one's still active.

Edit: Actually he came back with multiple accounts. Only 1 account per user is allowed.

It seems like GamerGate fried a lot of people's brains. That and George Zimmerman fandom seemed to be turning points in the WR.
