FWIW I am also a ridiculously competitive person but with golf it's different. Obviously you can compete but a normal round with no stakes means it's you vs the course or you vs your prior self. I fucking love golf and enjoy it without getting pissed.

It is expensive and there's a serious learning curve, though. But I say go for it if you can afford the hobby. Also, you get nice discounts on the prior year's best gear and don't need the newest shit all the time. Some people are just gear junkies though.
Man, I'm way too competitive with myself to enjoy golf without ever getting pissed off. I think I average about a "fuck" per hole. Good for you.

yea, I'm not looking to get very competitive. and I find that people find Golf to be very Zen, like their therapy.

honestly, being ridiculously competive takes the fun out of certain activities/games you once enjoyed.

This is why I quit playing chess. I was obsessed with winning,..after a while it just stopped being fun.

I thought so too. And I won't pretend like I never get pissed. Once you get pretty good you have higher expectations and when you play bad it's frustrating. But as a super competitive type I just find golf different.

I grew up and live in NY so a "fuck per hole" is actually a good pace.

I think there's something to it. Beautiful course, great weather, quiet, etc.. It's definitely uplifting.

And yeah, I hear ya on that point as well. Baseball became a serious, competitive thing for me. Play well and win and that was expected, and focus on the negatives. Lose and be miserable.

I do love competition though.

that is bullshit. seriously, why is he on the blacklist?

did he post porn, or try to hack into Crave?

what did he do that was so bad?

@Jack V Savage, don't you think he has been unjustly blacklisted?

I don't know the details, but I think having a username that falsely suggests that you're another poster should be bannable. Like if someone created an account called "Logical Insanity" or "LogicalInanity" and pretended to be you, wouldn't you think they should be banned?

yea, how could you be pissed on a beautiful golf course, in beautiful weather, having drinks?

well, unless your Eeyore, or the Grinch that stole Golf.

Let's hear you say that after you miss a short birdie putt after drilling your approach shot. Or chunking your club into the ground behind the ball and seeing it roll fifty feet after a straight drive.

Go fly a kite. I tried to do this exact same thing to you.

wait, was he doing that? I don't think he was. he obviously used a pseudonym. my point is, the punishment that Rip is receiving far exceeds the "crime" he committed.

it's ridiculous.

Sure, that blows. But it's all about your expectations. You can play bogie golf and enjoy the shit out of it.

tbh, this would fu*king piss me off...

but that's where alcohol comes in.

OK, I'm not up on the situation. I thought there was a fake ripskater account that just got banned (just from you guys' exchange). The real ripskater didn't bother me. I think it was an act, but a funny one at times, and I mostly just skipped over him.

I think by the time you're playing true bogey golf (half the time shooting under 90), your attitude is mostly already set. But yeah it's enjoyable to play at that level, you're hitting lots of good shots and getting that nice feedback from the strike of the ball often.

Right. Personally I hover around 85 when I play regularly and can have the occasion low 80s if I get hot and there are tons of rounds were I don't hit a single terrible shot, but I just don't make a lot of pars. It's a ton of fun.

But yeah, the game is hard as fuck and takes some dedication.
