Was the 2nd or the 5th the round judges split over?

I feel like split decision is the best result there. Don't want to see the belt from a dominant champ change hands over a fight that close. Challenger gets the respect that he was damn fucking close to beating Jon Jones

I think the Santos rounds can only be 1 2 and 5 unless a judge is shitfaced. 2 and 5 were closer than 1 imo.

Gotta be 2. And I have to think it's hard to know how much the judges over-scored that body kick that looked like a knockdown but was really Santos slipping.

I am not sure we all watched the same fight. Had that 4-1 for Jones, though 3-2 could be argued.

People are being blinded by Santos doing better than expected

Which round did you have Jones losing?

I remember the Gus fight had some serious "better than expected" blinding.

First round, though even that was close, and due more to inactivity on Jon's part

Could’ve went either way. Not surprising it was split. Would’ve been weird to see Jones lose that way cause I don’t think he thought he was in any danger of losing on the scorecards.

Also, if you take away the Santos slips, I think more people would’ve given the nod to Santos.

That's what I'm saying. Was it the 2nd or 5th that a judge gave to Santos but two gave to Jones? Round 1 was definitely Santos, but 2 and 5 were very close. One was unanimous Santos, the other was where the split happened.

How anyone can give Jones round 2...

You know what? I never thought Monthy Python was funny and I am bored when people make references to it.

Outside of Benny Hill, the brits have never made me laugh.

Why does Animotion never come up in one-hit wonder discussions? People probably just can't remember the band's name. I forgot it halfway through this post tbh.

lol..... so true.

I liked the Mighty Boosh, it's more recent and it has a lot of pop references I did not understand though. But in general, I prefer USA humor. New Zealand's funny too, do you know The Flight of the Conchords? Now that's deadpan.

Belgian has some great hits too, but you have to speak Dutch and be born in Flanders to understand it, really.

Little Britain, League of Gentlemen and Peep show were all really funny.

I think Santos won, but since Jon Jones is the champ he gets more leeway for being defensive. You gotta "take" that belt away from him, in that regard I think Santos was a bit too careful.

In all honesty I would've went after Jon Jones' chin with a fury unlike anything anyone has ever seen

Jones dictated the pace and thus won ring generalship. Santos did more damage but didn't score enough points and when he hurt his knee became evasive and waiting to counter. Jones did enough to win.

Great event. Especially loved Masvidal's KO, although I prefer a more competitive fight, and Blachowicz wasn't far behind.

I thought Jones had it. Even leaving aside the, "gotta beat the champ to be the champ" cliche. Santos landed the heavier strikes while Jones had the volume (depends on individual judges which they'll score higher), but Santos' compromised movement gave all the minor categories to Jones in terms of aggression and ring generalship.
If Santos hadn't had to stop the leg kicks, he would have won. Obvious rematch there.
