Catchy tune, but apparently Sherman didn't like it because people always broke out into chorus wherever he went.

They even played it at his funeral.

Poor guy, couldn't get any rest.

When you can’t argue with the facts move on to insults unrelated to the topic. You can celebrate Sherman all you want, but he wanted nothing else to do with Bedford Forrest.

Well before Secession they lost money on taxation. Whoever gained control of the new territories moving westward won the spoils.

I’m not 100% sure what Dickens meant by his comment.

Are we 100% sure that it wasn't that if the new territories were not going to be slave states, they'd just outvote the South on the matter anyways, so the South figured that they'd nip that in the bud by seceding?

Everyone who fought for the confederacy were traitors to Democracy. Your obsession with it is because you have to protect your fragile personal identity.

There was nothing righteous about the Southern cause. Nothing.
You are entitled to your opinion. Like I said before, it’s all about perspective.

Sorry, I changed that post to be more substantive and constructive. I won't post any more union victory songs.

After this one:

Maybe. But secession was about more than just that aspect. I’m sure that was one of the factors though.

I mean, do pro-slave forces really get to make this complaint?

"Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet, if God wills that it continue until all the wealth piled by the bondsman's two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said "the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether."

You know, you may want to look into Sherman’s history before you hale him as the great liberator. He had strong southern sympathies. He lived in Louisiana for years before the war. He became quite comfortable in the lifestyle. His only objection was secession from the Union.

Do a little homework and you will be a bit surprised.

Are there people who actually think America or the southern states would be better off today if the south had won?

its a bit dangerous to use that question as justification for past events

The food would be less hippy "organic farm to table vegan" trash would be a good thing.

We'd all be dying of heart attacks at 30 but the food would taste better and wouldn't be fucking rabbit food.

Food for thought, imo.

Do whatever you want on your own time, but leave it out of here.

I know, I know, if the result of freeing an entire race of people justifies going to war to prevent secession, then the result of blacks living it up in modern America justifies capturing and enslaving them. That old chestnut.

Long as we're Tom Petty-ing
Some of my favorites,
