Wanderlei Silva gets lifetime ban

They really ran him into the ground on this one. They needed to make an example out of someone. Who better than a guy who is on his way out and has a huge name.

Pretty much. The message was don't bounce on drug tests and if you do respect the commission and show up to the hearinh. Wanderlei running from the test was far worse than taking it and failing in the eyes of the commission.

It's a harsh ruling but a 5 year suspension might as well be lifetime for a 38 year old fighters.

They should just make it the same as a failed test like all other sports do. Not sure what they have to gain by this.

Pretty extreme -- not only was he given the axe, but they murdered him as well

I imagine it worked for public perception that they are doing their job. As far as will it convince anyone not to use gear....don't know about that.

70k fine? what a joke lmao

fuck the NSAC, there was zero precedent for this ruling.

How can they force him? What will they do if he doesn't pay? Not let him fight? Oh wait...they banned him for life anyway!

Fuckin NSAC is full of shit.

nsac is a government body is it not? They could probably take him to court over it, could affect his ability to stay in country if he refuses to pay.

It's a state government body. And he's Brazilian. What can they really, honestly do?

strange way of ending it like that. I was hoping for some final dream matches before he retired

NSAC really went on a power trip this hearing. Throwing fines, lifetime bans, and community service around like nothing. I don't get how Chael and ubereem got off so easy when they had their issues.

At Wands age a 2 year ban and a lifetime ban pretty much amount to the same thing.

That's only Nevada right?

If he wanted, could he not just choose another state to fight in, if he wanted to?

Doubtful.
The other ACs follow Nevada's lead.

Maybe he could sign with One FC and fight in Asia, but only if the UFC doesn't hold him by the balls with his current contract (which we don't know the details of).

A singular sentence is highly unlikely to swing every other commissions say especially considering the revenue that Wand can generate for a show.

The main and undercard could be filled with drunken homeless brawlers and as long as a Wand Chael fight headlined, the numbers would be solid.

lifetime ban....wow. The bald man was right after all

yeah i heard a lot of arguments here from people saying wand would get a slap on the wrist or even no punishment since he was not currently licensed. he did indeed get the hammer as dana said. not sure why people doubted that.

Wanderlei's victory pose pose on the ropes when he won a fight in Pride was all to see he was on roids. The nasty neck muscles he had. A jacked up freak when he's beating on Sakuraba and ****. Comes and fights in America and is a regular size old man all a sudden that gets KO'd by Chris Leben, has to retire cause he can't beat Rich Franklin, and had a good fight with Chuck when he had roids streaming through him still. Wanderlei sucks and he always has.

yeah, i tend to think wand is a little overrated but to be fair part of his downward slide was his chin giving out. he lost by KO to hendo and then devastatingly to cro cop. he was never the same after those losses. and of course at MW he was just a win-one, lose-one fighter late in his career--but oh the mileage he had on him by then!

go back to Brazil..take supplements and go into bare knuckle fighting...like grace videos..

State commissions will generally enforce the rulings of other commissions.

He also has a UFC contract, and the UFC respects commission rulings.
