Volkanovski won against Islam

There is no real argument to be made for Volk wining.
Sure there is. He very clearly won round 5, the clearest round of the fight. He probably won round 3. Round 2 was very close and competitive. Even round 4, where Islam was backpacking him all round he was never really in danger and never stopped attacking.

I scored it 3-2 Makhachev, but you could easily score it for Volkanovski, and many people did. And the momentum was dramatically in Volkanovski's favour by the end of it. Makhachev barely survived. Volkanovski was never in any real danger.

Like I said before, Makhachev won the decision, but Volkanovski won the fight.

But you do acknowledge that there is a soap box from which to proclaim your position?

The facts = the facts. (A tautology)

However, to ignore the nuances, and the momentum, = idiocy.

Islam Makhachev = "the technical winner" ...

But more people were impressed with Alexander Volkanovski's overall presentation ...

The majority of MMA fans (with a brain, and with a pulse) agree ...

Hence, Volkanovski's remaining on The #1 Pound-for-Pound UFC Ranking, after the fight was concluded (despite the "loss" ...) that's also "a fact" ...

Despite "the fact" of "the loss" ... the truth is, Volkanovski won every single "intangible nuance" in their fight, including position, pressure, and desire to finish at the end.

I just get a kick out of your P4P HTML skills man.

I just googled it. Turns out op is mistaken, Islam actually won.

3-2 Volk for me, but 3-2 Islam is fine as well. But when you consider the fact Volk was coming up a division against someone who seems pretty big for a LW, his stock went up even in defeat and it seems on here particularly that Islams stock didn’t go up even with the win. Obviously the belt means more than the moral victory but war Volk either way.

1st watch I had it even no clue who to choose... 2nd watch Volk won fight. Islam did nothing but fail at choke attemps and lay on Volk. Folk did more offense on back then Islam on top.

I wouldn't award the fighter on top when the one on bottom is only one really doing any offense.

Only 1 rd each to really score as a clear win but I definitely thought Volk edged out 2 of the 3 close rds

Baloney. Islam had more control time, Islam won the grappling and the striking. Islam hurt Volk more times (no, Islam was not seriously hurt in RD5, he was just gassed the fuck out and stalling the time out. Volk was visibly wobbled twice).

Mahachev barely survived lmao? He was holding on to ride out the round. Volk was actually looking like he could get KOed in rd2. Maybe Volk should have tried harder than the last minute of the fight, because he pretty clearly was not wining most of the fight until then.

Islam clearly won RD 1, 2 and 4. Volk clearly won 5. RD3 was pretty well tied.
Islam wining 4-1 is more sensible than giving Volk 3-2. Absolutely insane to see admittedly close rounds as a win for Volk.

As a fan of both, but REALLY wanted Volk to win, I agree with this assessment.

That said, that round that Islam had Volk in the body triangle? Islam just holding him there for the entirety with no choke attempts? And Volk actually being more active in hitting Islam?
I get how the judges practically automatically gave the round to Islam, but upon closer inspection & analysis of the round, a very respectable argument can be made it should have been given to Volk.

Its a subject that should be discussed more widely among the professional MMA community.

I rewatched the fight, its a pure robbery

BTW as good as this midget is, getting beaten by a midget show how overated islam is
Lmao get with the program bud.

Islam dominated volk lmao

Nothing clear about round 2. You are entitled to your opinion.

Islam won fair and square. There have been way more worse decisions and no one calls them a robbery. Sometimes our favorite fighters lose, we have to accept it.

Really struggling to award that consolation prize
