Valentina's Title Reign Will End On Saturday

Anything is possible in fighting and it would actually be refreshing if 125 lb division develops some depth. But there isn't much evidence to prove Santos has much of a chance to compete. She has decision wins in most of her fights against unranked opponents who either have losing records or at best a .500 record in recent fights. She finished Wood who has lost 4 out of her last 5 fights.

seems like a good opportunity for Val to use her sprawl game and kick the shit out of Tailia's legs until the shots aren't coming in quite so fast. I still think its Shev's fight to lose.

I love that TS is trying and also calling the method, although Santos doesn't have many ways to win. I hate the generic calls with no effort.

I think Val is going to age over night, and probably soon, so I won't be shocked if she suddenly loses.

But that said
"The last two times Valentina was taken down (Maia & Pena) she did not get up. "

Kinda made me chuckle. Pena got her takedown after 1.5 rounds of useless work, and was takedown herself multiple times. Val then forced Pena to keep working from top with useless point spam, by working from the bottom throwing strikes and sub attempts, and subbed her like a minute later.

I'm not sure how people don't see an intelligent fighter making a bull gas itself and then breaking it with that fight.
Maybe I'm too much of a Val fanboi.

I like Santos' style, and she can give Val trouble if she gets top. Considering the value, TS should bet on Santos. I'm not too convinced to do it.

You haven’t convinced me that Santos will win but you are making me think this will go to decision.
Of course, I’m not betting on Shevchenko at -750. But I’ll bet fight goes distance at even odds.

Actually, over 2.5 rounds at -220 look like a steal. Santos has never been finished and Shev is super conservative if the opponent remotely even poses a threat and is not reckless.

I’ll do o2.5 rounds as a parlay piece, maybe with Prochazka.

As much as I don't like Val...

She ain't scuuurd.

Seems like Santos is being rushed to be another sacrifice for Val to fill a card.

I just see Val taking her down and holding her there until she finds a way to finish the fight.

{<jordan} 0% chance shevchenko is taken down and controlled for 3 straight rounds by Santos. There's a good chance the opposite happens if they get in clinch situations. Val has out grappled the strongest women at 125 who didn't get bullied by Borella.

You’re a genius if you are correct but sadly Idt you will be i can’t pick against Val she’s too good

Having seen what Val has done to far superior competition, I don't really see what Talia Santos has to offer that she hasn't already seen. She handled Nunes power on the feet, Pena's pressure on the ground, dominated Andrade everywhere, and out ish-ished Holm. Stylistically, I think it is fresh matchup, but I think it's a familiar outcome. Val by decision 49-46.

Amanda gave us signs that she was slipping. Val hasn't shown that. I have no notion that she's gonna lose.

I dont think Valentina will lose but I do have a suspicion Taila will pose more problems than most of Valentinas opponents.

Is she going to retire after smashing the shit out of Santos?

That's the only way her reign is ending this weekend. Val will dance on Saturday night.

Santos has A pathway to victory. Shevchenko has EVERY pathway to victory. Shevchenko threw EVERY 135er she faced like a sack of potatoes, even Nunes. She submitted the woman with the current 135 crown.

Yeah Santos might win. GSP lost to Matt Serra. But I bet against Shevchenko when they tell me she's fighting with a broken leg. Or she's fighting Kayla Harrison or Cyborg.

I usually have always sided with Amanda over the whole fights and wins over Valentina, but I always give Valentina the credit that she is never distracted from her goals. She lives and breathes martial arts all day and every day (unlike Nunes who has tons of distractions with Nina chasing her around everywhere she goes). Valentina takes her every fight and opponent very seriously (again unlike Nunes who thought beating Pena would be a cakewalk especially at 135 lbs where she has struggled with weight cut and cardio).

Having said that, I don't think Valentina will lose on Saturday. I strongly doubt she will be caught by surprise.

Santos is a legitimate contender and a more compelling stylistic threat to Valentina than someone like Murphy could have ever hoped to be. She might even be able to make it more competitive than Andrade (that's a low bar to clear, I know). On paper she's like a bigger, stronger, evolved Jennifer Maia who more readily embraces her offensive grappling. Ideally she would have had one more fight against someone in the Top 5 to get some extra seasoning and round out her game before getting this shot, but it is what it is. She's solid and a game fighter nonetheless.

That being said, Bullet by UD.
