Social US Women's National Team Just Want To Be Treated Fairly - The Men's Can't Even Qualify For World Cup

How so? The women are the best at women. The men are not any good. Also, Soccer is a women's sport. One team has a profit the other doesn't, now who should be paid more??? You business?

You clearly have no idea how the sport works. The US women dominate a sport that is not very big to begin with, women's soccer doesn't not have the resources and revenue as mens, that is a fact. Men's soccer is the #1 sport in the world and is a massive money maker so when the men play, they generate more money then the big womens game. and FFS read the OP and the thread, the whole "women make more than the men" angle has already been discussed

This is a joke. The women should be paid 5X more than the men. When the world up comes around people are glued to the screen to watch the women. The man are lucky to make the world cup every year

The championship game against Japan for the women really had amazing viewership, really great ratings no doubt.

Other than that game the men's viewership is much better. It would be interesting to see how those viewership numbers are translated into money for men and women players. My guess is viewership doesn't directly increase the players pay, but it helps their sponsorship dollars.

To be honest being as good is not the real problem. They don't bring in the free cash flow. If they brought in the same unincumbered money they would have higher pay.
If that's happening now, that will be reflected on the next contract the players negotiate.

I don't blame them. The US men's soccer team sucks while the women's is probably the best in the world. I'm willing to bet more Americans watch the women play. 'Murica likes a winner.

the article says they brought in 20 million more than the men last, year but got paid 4x less.

what am i missing here?

it should be a sliding scale based on what you produce.

They brought in 20 more million? I am betting they are not doing a proper cost accounting creating the illusion of higher free cash flow that's not there.

If the women are honestly bringing in more after costs then there is a problem and the women are right.

lol no

Going back and reading the thread it looks like I spoke too soon.

The only way I think this works out for them is if the have a base pay and a revenue based bonus scheme at the end.

I'm no economics person. So what is the truth here in your opinion?

Huh, that's kind of surprising to me, thanks. Do you have numbers for the Women's World Cup in Vancouver? I figured the women would bring in more viewership as they're the world #1 ranked team whereas your men's team is somewhere around #30. I guess men's sports just trump all no matter the quality (which is totally understandable).

I'm no economics person. So what is the truth here in your opinion?

If you want true earnings based on free cash flow to go to the people who were involved in creating it a new contract might not benefit those same exact women.

This is more accounting than it is economics or finance. To reward the players involved a new contact. What about players that will not be on the same team next year?

It does look like these women brought in the revenue and are not getting the reward.

For market principles, it shouldn't be about how good they are when it comes to getting paid, it should be how much money they generate.

I came into the thread to ask this question. Does anyone know the answer?

Women's soccer is not a big sport, it doesn't matter how good they are, it isn't as big as the men, this is like comparing the Los Angeles Sparks to the Phoenix Suns

It's one page back. Revenue before sponsorship was greater for men than women the last four years total.
