Russia/Eastern Europe is a real hotbed for HW talent these days it seems. Much like in boxing, I think that's where the talent will be at in the coming years. Just my thoughts.

Same here. The US is still pumping out a few guys, usually in the form of NCAA wrestlers, but Russia/Eastern Europe will be the future for sure.

Weekend update for a slow weekend:

Athletic prospect Allen Crowder defeats Arnold Adams (replacement for injured Robert Neal) by unanimous decision.

In amateur fights, former D2 NCAA wrestler JD Ramsey defeats previously undefeated Jon English by unanimous decision.

some do not even reach the height to 6 feet.
those fighters will eventually go down a division for UFC call.
For those who are big enough, let's see if they'll get past Krylov

Not sure why UFC hasn't gone after Tybura.. wonder if he is a felon or something?

Yea the only reason Tybura, Grabowski and Smoldarev aren't in the UFC is because of their M1 contracts.

I don't think it's as dodgy as Bellator contracts, but M1 contracts seem to be quite long, and if M1 wants to keep you then generally they will. Very few fighters seem to make the jump from M1 to UFC. Off the top of my head I can only think of Rashid Magomedov and Mairbek Taisumov who have made the jump straight from M1 to UFC (and Krylov, but he was just a last minute replacement in an M1 tournament and not under contract).

When Vasilevskiy signed with Bellator I remember M1 taking them to court claiming he was still under contract with them.

Great so 50% of the future HW talent cannot be in UFC becasue of some crooked russians.

Vinny Magalhaes came from M1, says on wiki that there was a contract dispute but I can't remember any details.

I saw that Ishii was rumored to fight Sergei Kharitonov if he beats Cro Cop. Anyone know if there is truth to that?

good fight but I don't wanna see either lose! Sergei does have an unnamed upponent for the next M-1 though

They're both fighting on that M-1 card in China so it would only make sense. Otherwise they're going to end up fighting some scrubs or random russians.

Yeah, all of the guys on my list who are 5'10-5'11 can cut to 205. Erohkin, Ishii, Cannonier, Barrett, and Mulheron can definitely all make 205, and a few have in the past. The issue is some of those guys don't want to cut weight, and may stay at HW even if called up to a big promotion. HW fighters can be stubborn with their weight cuts.

Ishii is going to get a rude awakening if that happens. Cro Cop is plagued by injuries and isn't capable of performing like he used to. Sergei isn't and can perform to his potential, and even if he comes in heavy he is leagues better than anyone Ishii has ever beat.

I personally think Ishii will stay far away from guys like Sergei, Grabowski, Tybura, and Smoldarev. He'll probably fight Guram or Ricco and Kharitonov will probably fight Wiuff or Monson.
