Since there's been lots of changes in the heavyweight landscape for US prospects, I'll post my updated list of top 20 US heavyweight prospects. The selection rules follow the same guidelines in the main Unsigned HW post, which means some fighters who are on win streaks such as Ashley Gooch, Richard Odoms, Anthony Gomez, John Hawk, Chris De La Rocha, etc... will not be included due to age, fighting in a major promotion, or several other factors that are outlined in the main post.
Top 20 US HW Prospects
1.
Curtis Blaydes - Ultra athletic NJCAA champion, fast learner and blessed with tons of physical gifts. Future top 10 if he puts it all together.
2.
Cody East - A movement heavy boxer with a solid training camp at Jackson's. East's speed and footwork puts down anyone who can't keep him still.
3.
Steve Mocco - Olympian Steve Mocco. That is all.
4.
Jan Jorgensen - Athletic former linebacker at the NCAA level, great athlete who trains at elevation and has a strong record against regional competition.
5.
Dale Sopi - Mark Hunts little brother from another mother, big power and resilience but still extremely raw as a martial artist. Trains at Power MMA.
6.
Joe Cason - Roufusport fighter. Very injury prone but also a tough fighter when fighting healthy.
7.
Brandon Griffin - King of the blitz, Griffin starts fast and brutal.
8.
Adam Milstead - Younger and athletic with good skillset, however he may drop to LHW.
9.
Allen Crowder - NCAA football athletics background and former body builder, lots of physical abilities and improving skillset.
10.
Josue Lugo - Good grappler, getting in better shape at Cung Le's gym, wins against regional veterans, however is getting into his mid 30's.
11.
Jeremy Hardy - Karate black belt and BJJ blue belt, Hardy is just starting his pro career and needs to prove himself to the world.
12.
Dillion Cleckler - Strong record against low level competition, strong fighter. Lots of physical ability, but getting older and has questionable cardio.
13.
Maurice Greene - Tricky opportunity fighter and powerful striker, however his style may not be suited for success in the North American HW scene due to wrestling heavy grinders and clinch fighters with power.
14.
Jeff Hughes - Former NAAFS title contender, Hughes is probably better off at LHW, however his wrestling base is strong and his venture into pro fights could be fruitful.
15.
Keishaun Hill - Former CAMO amateur state champion, went to a split with Jack May. Good potential but also raw and inexperienced.
16.
Nick Roehrick - Sparsely fights, but has a notable wrestling background and is an extremely powerful grappler.
17.
Azunna Anyanwu - Experiencing ups and downs, Anyanwu has been always been a step short from getting that signature win that would propel him into a larger organization.
18.
Daniel James - James is a late starter in the MMA game, and has had a few setbacks in his pro and amateur career. However things are looking up as James has compiled a win streak to carry his career further.
19.
Orlando Sanchez - Credentialed grappler Sanchez is tiny at 5'9", however despite being a natural LHW, Sanchez's grappling is a terror for anyone he faces at any weight class.
20.
Chaz Morgan - Undefeated brawler Chaz Morgan is nearing the age cutoff, however his record alone is notable on the regional heavyweight circuit.
*
Chris Barnett - A top 10 heavyweight is buried under 80-90 pounds of fat, if he can drop to 245 in the long term he could be a force. Not ranked due to fighting at SHW.
