Unsigned Heavyweights - Thread Three

Sucks for Aspinall but seems it was a rookie mistake during a fight he was handily winning. He'll learn from it.

Paul L, do you think the Austin fight was too soon for Aspinal?

I don't think so, he was on his way to winning emphatically, but left himself open to a tricky submission. That's something you could attribute to his age, and won't likely be an issue again if he adapts his game properly.

I think giving him someone like Denham, Etherington, or Dayman Lake wouldn't be out of the question for his next fight.

I've updated the amateurs post to remove fighters who have gone pro, retired, or have gone on extended inactivity streaks. I've also added a handful of new names to the amateurs post. These include:

Dontale Mayes
Braden Erdman
Carl Gaul
Jordan Heiderman
Tevyn Tillman

Are you high on any of the lads fighting on the Bellator prelims tonight?

Huddleston and Sakai both have great potential, although they have really tough fights ahead of them. Ayala and Gallemore may not be world beaters, but both of them can smash prospects.

They aren't unsigned I know, but Huddleston and Sakai look solid prospects. I'd love to see Bellator make that fight next, winner gets a top-tier guy in BFC. Alex surprised me especially, Ayala's no jobber.

Becoming a fan of Dontale Mayes. One to watch.

Ruben Wolf calls out Marc Godbeer on twitter - both agree the fight but i'm told BAMMA want to protect their ticket seller, so won't match it up.

What gives?

That's dumb, the fight makes sense on the local scene since Wolf beat the former top ranked British HW in Mulheron, so setting up Wolf to fight Godbeer seems the perfect match. The only other guys floating around now are probably Mulheron, Dayman Lake, and Stuart Austin, which are all really secondary choices to Wolf.

Neat. Erokhin looked like complete shit in his last fight. Couldn't defend a takedown to save his life (if I recall correctly.)

Always look forward to new heavyweights.

Hey, i'm glad he's getting his shot.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset that a guy is getting the chance of his lifetime. What I'm bothered by though is the UFC signing guys with no long term potential who will also struggle with even the lowest end of the division.

The UFC should be shooting towards long term stability in the heavyweight division, and signing guys who are already nearing their physical downswing isn't what's going to fix the looming problem of retirements in an aging division.

Ok, they made up for the De La Rocha signing with that one. I hope Grabowski starts training more seriously, a performance like the one against Tybura would not be good in the UFC.
