Unsigned Heavyweights - Thread Four

Misc tibits:

Chris Lewis wins his 6th amateur fight by TKO in round one. They need to find this guy some better competition, maybe Ernest James?

Andrew Van Zyl fights Tomasz Kowalkowski on May 14th at EFC 49.
#1 ranked South African amateur Wessel Mostert makes his pro debut against Wilhelm Strauss on the same card.

Rizin spoiler:

Huggy Bear loses by split decision to Baby Fedor. That dude needs to get down to 245 or so, his age and all that weight is starting to catch up to him, he's not as explosive or agile as he used to be.
Looking forward to seeing how they bring Mostert along. He and Chad Hanekom are the prospects I'm most excited to see.

Craig Burke

Found this guy looking at the Tapology regional Rankings. Two fights cancelled this year so people are scared of him.

JD Ramsey fights Devyn Lewis on Saturday as well. Great amateur fight!

Its hard to gauge burke, he seems to have 4 fights with a combined fight time of 1:30.

Minakov said in a recent interview that Fight Nights tried to make Minakov-Kharitonov fight (I think for Emelianenko-Maldonado event) but Bellator guys didn't gave them their permission and said that this fight can happen only in Bellator.

Misc news:

Danie Van Heerden defeats Brendon Groenewald by TKO in round 2 to claim the vacant EFC title.

Dion Staring fights Darko Stosic for the FFC heavyweight title on June 10th. Also on that same card, Tyler East fights Dale Sopi.

Arjan Bhullar's fight tonight was cancelled, no reasons have been listed yet.

Hopefully Bellator will make it happen. Was hoping Minakov would make his way to the Ufc but at this point just want to see him fight

Do you think either of those 2 have a future in the big league?

Not Tyler, unlike Cody who has had a clean record since 2008, he is still having legal problems to this day and definitely isn't a stable person.

Sopi does though, his game is very similar to Mark Hunts, short stocky guy with big power and good striking. But he's going to drop fights to wrestlers and guys who can grind, so it just depends on how many of those guys he comes across on his way up.

I'll take Sopi by TKO in that one since Tyler's striking defense is lacking.

JD Ramsey defeats Devyn Lewis by Unanimous Decision

Michel Batista defeats Andreas Danapas to move to 2-0 as a pro.

Michel is a high level Cuban wrestler who competed in the Olympics. He'll be dropping to 205, but at 32 he'll have to follow in Yoel Romero's footsteps starting at a later age.

Looks a very interesting prospect.

Pan Am gold, holds a win over DC. Training partner of Romero and he is coached by Alexis Vila? That's like the perfect place for a Cuban wrestler to turn to MMA, he should definitely be on the UFC's radar.

I still hold out hope that Mijain Lopez will defect and start an MMA career.... If he trained with those fellow Cuban guys at ATT, he could be a champion in MMA.

Yeah Lopez would be amazing. Him and Teddy Riner are my two wish list athletes that I'd like to see in MMA. Time is ticking on both of them though.

After saturday's HW fight, which guy do you think has a higher ceiling, Paul. East or Harris?

Harris has always had massive potential, he just hasn't been able to put it together in the UFC. Hopefully his win over East will get him some confidence.

I feel East's cap is a mid level Shawn Jordan type guy, while Walt could be a Travis Browne level fighter.

Both are just hypotheticals though sadly, I don't think either will ever fight. Lopez might be a bit inspired if Makhov or Amir make moves in the sport though, similar to Batista watching DC.

I asked Michel's management if he was going to LHW or sticking with HW, and it looks like he's sticking with HW!

I'll be adding him to the top 10 shortly, he's a huge prospect.
