Unsigned Heavyweights - Thread Four

There are a few Brazilian HW prospects about. Obviously Fernando Rodrigues Jr is quite well known for a 'prospect'. The main 3 for me, all decent size & in their early-mid twenties....

Tiago Cardoso (6-0). 26 years old, 6'7" tall & 265 lbs. 5/6 stoppages. Fighting Fernando Rodrigues in May in a big Brazilian HW fight.

Ricardo Prasel (5-0). 25 years old, 6'7" tall & 245 lbs. Finished each fight in the first round.

Wagner Maia (4-0). 22 years old, 6'2" tall & 240 lbs. Fights for Jungle Fight. Decent SD win over Leonardo Vitorino (4-2) last fight.

There is also Gleison Silva De Abreu (4-0). Maybe a bit old to be called a prospect at 33 years old. Training partner of JDS.

*Edit - Beat me to it Paul L - was writing this up for 15 mins while i rewatched what little footage i could find of the above!

PS Blaydes is the underdog against Ngannou (+110), so thats a nice double your money bet if you're confident in him. Also, Tybura is a steal at -175 against Timothy Johnson imo.

$10 returns $33 for a Blaydes/Tybura double.

Damn, that's a lot of HW fights.

Really pumped for Blaydes and Tybura's debut in the UFC.

I've got Blaydes and Johnson. I think Tim's got the size and the D2 wrestling experience to take this one...

Surprised no one is mentioning Cody East signing to fight Walt Harris in the UFC. Hope Harris gets a win in this one.

Also, anyone know what's up with Shawn Jordan? Thought he was looking at fighting in Japan.

Was mentioned on the last version of this thread

Justin Ledet (6-0) vs Brice Ritani-Coe (4-3) set for the Legacy 55 main event 5/13. Really sad I won't be able to go. :(
Mark Tanios (3-1) vs Sandeep Kumar Dahiya (7-2) set for Cedar FC 1 4/28

I hope Ledet drops to 205 again. Brice is a tough fight for him though, dude hits like a truck.

I agree. He's flabby, and carries around a lot of unnecessary weight at heavy. He spent a lot of his time off boxing, but he had a little trouble putting guys away. He's got slick submissions though, so I think he should take this to the ground.

It must be a sadly day for this thread, two top prospects with losses on their debuts in UFC.

Yeah it sucks, this is what happens in UFC though, no gimmies.

I've seen some mention they should be more like Bellator and give them squash matches to look good.

Even if the doc didn't stop the fight, Blaydes was going to lose.

Certainly didn't discrace himself though - he looked quite good, but Ngannou is one of the best boxers at HW, is a physical specimen and has very good TDD.

Ngannou will go far in the division, and if Blaydes improves his striking he could do too.

Ngannou stuffing those takedowns was the big deciding factor. Blaydes has REALLY good takedowns, so that was extremely unexpected. Props to Francis.

The funny thing is I had Tim Johnson at #20 and Ngannou at #18, while Tybura and Blaydes were at #1 at various points. Styles make fights.

Most likely he gets stopped in the third but Ngannou was getting tired, so was Blaydes and with one eye it would have been tough to win but who knows.

his shot was when he finally got him down and had side control in second round he couldnt keep it, that was his shot to do something.

Ngannou's takedown defense was unbelievable, proper shocked.

Curtis is a junior national champion and has inhuman strength, some high level fighters have said he's the strongest guy they've ever worked with. Ngannou being able to out muscle him like that... Never in a million years would I have thought that would happen.

Tybura and Blaydes both showed flashes of promise in their fights, the debut is always the hardest it seems. They'll be back.

I only hope UFC won't put them against each other

Heard some sad news. William Penn (8-5) has passed away. The details aren't known yet. He was only 32.

He fought a lot of big names in his relatively short career including Stipe Miocic, Blagoi Ivanov and Satoshi Ishii.
