Unsigned Heavyweights - Thread Four

Heard some sad news. William Penn (8-5) has passed away. The details aren't known yet. He was only 32.

He fought a lot of big names in his relatively short career including Stipe Miocic, Blagoi Ivanov and Satoshi Ishii.

Far too young, my sister died a couple weeks ago around his age, as well. Life is cruel and fucked. I'm upset. I know people in their 70's and that do drugs everyday, it breaks my heart.

Really sorry to hear that man, that's way too young to go.

Thanks, man. Honestly there's nothing anyone could do, she's been suffering all her life and now she's finally free. It does kill me though. Life is fucked mate.

That's really sad, he's not much older than I am, really puts things in perspective. I was actually just thinking about him as an opponent for Jeff Hughes in the future, since he's fought on the Ohio scene. Thought that would have been a good fight.

My condolences man, so sorry :(

I hear ya man. I'm turning 25 this year, and a lot of people I went to school have died for various reasons. Puts things into perspective sometimes, and makes you want to get the most out of life. Gotta take the good with the bad I suppose.

Most likely he gets stopped in the third but Ngannou was getting tired, so was Blaydes and with one eye it would have been tough to win but who knows.

his shot was when he finally got him down and had side control in second round he couldnt keep it, that was his shot to do something.

It's called building a fighter up and good matchmaking... Something the UFC clearly struggles with.. As for the disappointing debuts on both guys last night..... I actually think they were matched pretty fairly. Tybura came on strong late but unfortunately Johnsons grinding tactics were enough for him to win a razor thin decision. Tybura still looked pretty good in defeat though. Blades had a decent 2nd considering he had a horrible 1st where he was dropped twice. Both guys have something to offer the division if they're built up properly and not fed to the wolves. Tybura v.s Omielanczuk next makes sense for a multitude of reasons.... Blades v.s Hamilton, or Danho would be good.

If I'm not mistaken Tybura was in Omielanczuk's corner in his fight against Danho.

There really aren't many wolves at HW. Both guys should get an opponent like the East/Harris loser, Hamilton or Danho next. If they lose those fights they aren't Ufc ready yey

So is Huggy Bear finally attempting to get down to 265? Willis has fought at SHW before, so it wouldn't surprise me if they just decided to say screw it. As cool as it is to see SHW in a major promotion, it would be cooler seeing Barnett at 265.

Willis normally fights at like 300, and Barnett at 320ish. Would be an amazing ad for a weight loss program if they both made 265, but I get the feeling they'll be rocking the 300lbs HW thing.

Just for fun: The Chris Barnett weight progression graph, and at the end if he dropped to 265 in June ;)

The fact that you made this just made my night.

Looking at Roehrick and Lewis, but their opponents are definitely sub par. Also curious about Barnett vs Baby Fedor.

Huggy Bear weighed in at 301. 30 punds lighter than his last fight, and a lot lighter than he's been in a long time. I don't think he'll get to 265, but that's promising.

Misc tibits:

Chris Lewis wins his 6th amateur fight by TKO in round one. They need to find this guy some better competition, maybe Ernest James?

Andrew Van Zyl fights Tomasz Kowalkowski on May 14th at EFC 49.
#1 ranked South African amateur Wessel Mostert makes his pro debut against Wilhelm Strauss on the same card.

Rizin spoiler:

Huggy Bear loses by split decision to Baby Fedor. That dude needs to get down to 245 or so, his age and all that weight is starting to catch up to him, he's not as explosive or agile as he used to be.

Speaking of, Chris Lewis fights Ernest James at Bellator in June. Tapology and Wiki say it's a 205 pound pro fight, but I'm guessing that's incorrect and it's likely a 265 amateur fight. We'll see though once more information comes out.

Bellator promote amateur fights? damn

For some reason I thought they had the odd ammy fight on cards, but looking back they haven't had any, so it's probably pro then.

Now the question is if it's 265 or 205, Lewis and James are fairly big dudes.
