Umar did better than all of prime Merab's top opponents with one hand

What about Merabs back and leg? Does that not matter or is it only Umar who was injured?
Merab said he felt great on the night on the fight which is ultimately what counts the most.

Refracturing your hand in the first round on the other hand is disasterous.

Actually the person who deserved it got skipped over because his last name was not nurmagomedov
Obviously not because Umar did better than all the other legends who fought Merab

And Merab will be over 35 by the next time they fight if it were to happen again. Conversely, Umar is about to enter his peak. Merab's age is a much bigger factor in any defeat he takes on starting next year.
It's not quite that black and white on the 35 rule. Ive found people can hold their shit together pretty well up until around 38. They seem to just go off a cliff after that. Some people actually age slower give or take a few years.

Umar did way better, the judge that gave the 1st round to Merab should be banned.

Holy Hel.

I was just watching and letting it ride. I didn't have a clear cut winner either way.

Fucking wild that a judge scored the 1st for Merab.

To be fair, even if that judge gave it to Umar, their score would've been 48-47 Merab.

Unless something crazy happens, it feels like it's only a matter of time before Umar has the belt.

I'm definitely down for a rematch if Umar wins a solid match.

Umar is being disrespected and underrated for a very close fight against a great champ with one hand. It is what it is. Someone needs to tell the truth.

And we all know he did MUCH better.

Who cares about O'Malley's padded scorecard?
Sort of like you disrespected Khamzats win against Usman, with an injured hand for 2/3 rounds. Funny how an injury is only a valid excuse for a fighter you support.

At least try to be consistent.

Bantamweight is really fun now, a lot of interesting matchups to be made in 2025.
Would like to see any combination of Yan, Umar, O'Malley +1 fight it out for the next title shot.

“He only needed one more round”.
Merab didn’t need anymore rounds to win but he still had more in him whereas Umar looked like he needed an oxygen tank.

History revision much? He lost all three rounds convincingly.

Umar the only one to take him down, tooks rounds and rocked him.

Umar took 2, arguably 3 rounds off of Merab with one hand.
More argument Umar lost 4 rounds, the 3 rounds for Merab were clear one of the early rounds could have swung Merab. This is coming from an objective Umar fan, his time will come.

Umar needs to prepare another hand for the rematch with Merab just in case he breaks one hand, he still has 2 more.

people are gonna bitch in the comments but this is the truth, I was very impressed with Umar's showing against one of the most dominant UFC fighters of all time

And still only needed one more round and he would have taken the decision on 2 of the 3 scorecards and won the fight.

The rematch can't come soon enough. That was high level and fun to watch. A grappling matrix.

Henry, Yan, O'Malley ect. have no chance.

I say book Umar vs. Suga and the winner takes on Merab in the rematch when he turns 35.
Nah Umar gets to work his way through the top 10 now after getting rushed to the title.

He didn't have a 5 round gas tank when the fight wasn't going his way.

Give him someone like Figgy or similar who also just took a loss, but had looked good leading up. He needs two fights before we even think about an eliminator or he will have the same happen again.

He took the first 2 rounds but cost himself the fight with the volume he threw out to win those rounds to barely eke them out. Merab set him up those first two rounds to lose the next 3.

Umar only needed a 3rd hand and a 3rd lung….then he would have absolutely beat Merab.

Called Merab a duck.
Merab beats you…while having staph during camp.
But I broke my hand.
Too bad. Get back in line. Rack up a couple more wins and try again.

Also…Merab had an injured hand before facing Yan….and then injured it again during the fight.
He won.

Umar is a good fighter…accept the loss. Move on. Hopefully try again in the future.

I honestly think Umar wins the rematch...he just has to improve his cardio, which Khabib will surely focus on.

Umar's ceiling is higher than Merab

Yeah, it was a close fight, with a clear winner who took the last three rounds, Merab.

Lol at arguably 3. Merab had a better case for 5-0 than Umar did 3-2. The first two rounds were close, the last three were not.
