People are proud of Merab because, in my opinion, he has been the biggest underdog/underrated and overlooked fighter of the last 8 years. Now people realize how good he is (myself included), which makes all his annoying, weird, over-the-top positivity funny and almost inspirational. 'Pros did not know Merab was this good' is the main headline I've been reading, which is funny because he has fought more than anyone in the division, and now there's no one left to fight. He also stood by Aljo, took a lot of criticism, suffered in the rankings for years, and then became champion. He didn't let Dana push him around and has maintained his friendship with Aljo. I know it's all fight talk and they try to sell it, but I'm starting to think the Georgian/Dagestani beef is a real rivalry and that maybe Ilia's trash talk isn't as crazy as I first thought. Anyway, Umar is really good and it was a very close fight, but people are wasting their time trying to take this away from Merab; it's better for Umar if people just let it go.
