Media Umar ain't beating Merab he can't even defend a takedown from a collage wrestler

Not sure wtf you guys are talking about but he's already champ.

jfc chat gtp is less reliable than google I can't be held accountable for this I thought the future was now

Umar is future of the division, Merab better bring in some Dagestanis grapplers who can somewhat copy Umar.

Very excited for the match up.
Oh wait the future is now and his name is Umar. I bet Khabib can bring a bunch of high caliber grapplers in to do rounds with Merab to replicate what Merab does, even if heavier, but can Merab find an Umar with his fight iq, kick game and grappling?

All these threads make sense now, you’re still coping with that Conrat loss. It’s been six years man, might be time to seek professional help to get over it.
No, I just love this image of Khabib Nurmagomedov getting punched in the face, it could be any other fighter.

Taken down by a college wrestler in training? Gosh they shouldn't even fight at this point...

Another vicitim of Proper 12 poisioning
My hatred towards Russian fighters from Dagestan in MMA/UFC has nothing to do with Conor McGregor, I just like the image of the greatest representative Khabib Nurmagomedov taking a big punch in the face. Idiot!

That comeback is weaker than the punch Conor landed in that pic. Khabib has gotten hit with real punches you could have shown. Your Merab like angry response to this is even more proof of your conversion to the church of Proper 12.

Who better than to lay out a collage and menage a tois , and wide array of reportoire of sambo ,judo, greco, and indigenous Dagstandu moves than the Umar "The Owl" Squirmagomedov

😶‍🌫️

Umar got knocked down by a dude without a Wikipedia page literally this year. Then he beat Cory and got a title shot over Fig or Yan who then beat Fig.

You can think he's the next big thing or a future champ looks wise, and beating Cory isn't nothing, while still acknowledging Merab was absolutely correct to say the hype was completely out of proportion and Umar should've needed to beat some more contenders.

Sean went and beat Yan, Sterling, Vera, and took rounds off Merab and still gets underrated on here by contrast.

It was a flash knockdown that looked like next to nothing.

I guess this is proof that Merab who has no knockouts is going to outstrike Umar lol

Anderson Silva lost to Ryo Chonan by submission before dominating the UFC middleweight division. Stuff like this doesn't matter. Fighters can improve.

So if Umar wins the fight, what's the next goalpost move here? Merab was never good and Umar still hasn't proved anything?

Umar could go 50-0 and only fight top 5 guys the rest of his career but you'll still be here talking shit about him and everyone else linked to Khabib.

As time goes on and you idiots keep doing this, it really only makes you look ridiculous. You can post this shit a thousand times a day but it doesn't actually affect reality in the slightest. Stay delusional if you want to but don't act like the rest of us need to follow your delusional bullshit.
If Umar went 50-0 over only top 5 guys nobody would talk shit.

People just also think that's never going to happen... as it's never happened.

Like it didn't with Khabib.

Good question. Some just aren't that good at fighting? The Oklahoma St high level wrestler just lost once (should have been twice) in close fights on Dana White Contender Series.

Ive talked about before that American Wrestling has turned into a sport of money/privilege in the last decade more than it ever was in the past. Talking out of my ass but I'd be surprised if the top 8 guys in college each year at all the weight classes didn't have at least a median family income of 150k.

Before it had more athletes and tough people being coached up in college. Now kids are buying the college level coaching and training at a young age and basically coming to college a near finished product.

Rich family kids might not be eager to jump into getting punched for a living? NIL also giving these top guys an extra 40-50k now. That's not a ton of money but they aren't leaving college broke as well. Coaching youth club academies is a way for these guys to make 50-75k a year or so doing something they know and enjoy on their own hours working for themselves.

Just thinking out loud though, hopefully more of them make the jump soon.
Wrestling and most college sports has been heavily populated by the upper middle class for a very long time if not always. Been like that since before most people on this site were born at the very least.

The reason why there aren't as many high level college wrestlers in upper MMA is because the UFC doesn't use college wrestlers to market their product anymore. They had an abundance of college wrestlers before to make their product look legitimate. That image of low level athletes or drunk brawlers isn't a problem anymore, so the need for guys who wrestled in the NCAA isn't there.

MMA is still not a sport for poor people regardless (it's expensive as hell despite not having any equipment really needed), so it wouldn't explain the difference. Most pro athletes come from privileged in MMA and in most sports in general.
