Do you think umar will take a fight after Bautista?

All of that is true, but I don't see how it equates to umar deserving the rematch. Seems more like people just want it
We can agree to disagree.

I think it does, many people want it (including myself), there is a personal rivalry there with a pinch of animosity, very competitive - all makes for an excellent fight.

Way more interesting than anything else I can think of at the moment - including Petr Yan but I'm actually okay with them fighting until Umar can work his way back.

I guess we just have different ideas of what deserve means. Umar hasn't done anything since he lost, and only has one ranked win in his entire career. Him having a good fight with the champ and his fan base being sour that he lost a close fight just doesn't mean that umar deserves a rematch. It just means you want it. For what it's worth, I want a rematch too, but the guy certainly doesn't deserve it.

Well, I'm with you in that I think he should get a solid win before they offer him another rematch.

Merab is already scheduled to fight again - so they can't just sit back and wait.

Well, maybe they could but I don't think that's what Umar should do.

I don't think he is technically next in line with a win over Bautista, there's a plethora of former champs who haven't received title shots off 1 fight win streak. I don't see why a former title challenger deserves that privilege.
If Merab loses to Petr regardless of how he will receive a rubber match so Umar will have to fight again after Mario and if Song beats number 1 ranked O'Malley he will be ahead of Umar as well.

I feel so many hypotheticals will have to happen for me to feel Umar is next after a win over Bautista.
Merab has to defeat Yan in the rematch
Pantoja has to lose vs Van or wins and shows no interest in moving up.
The Rumoured Song vs O'Malley, if Song loses that bout.

If all those things come to be is the only way Umar should be next up.

Article from 3 months ago. He says he'd accept a fight with Merab if offered, but he's not interested in moving up to bantamweight.

I think it would be a good fight but I don't think Pantoja is really that interested, and I don't see the UFC offering it to him and potentially holding up the FlyW division unless the fighter himself is pushing for it.
Do you just read clickbait title?
“But of course, I want to fight the best fighters in the world. If I have the opportunity to fight Merab, of course, I’d accept. But it’s not something I really look for."

Ofcourse I'd accept. That's not saying I'm not interested.

and here he is again talking about how they should fight if he beats Van, and Merab wins.

You're just ignoring all the places in the article where he talks up all the flyweight contenders and says he has his division and is happy fighting there and isn't looking to move up to bantamweight.

I don't see a scenario where Pantoja pulls an Islam/Ilia and vacates the flyweight title to challenge Merab at bantamweight. On the other hand, if the UFC offered him a chance to fight Merab at like a 130-lb catchweight for the BMF title, I'm sure he'd say yes, but I can't see the UFC offering that.

Umar could wait it out for 2 or so years until Merab ages out.

I'm not ignoring he talks about defending his title too. It's just fucking irrelevant to if he would take a fight with Merab, his answer is YES. FULL STOP. You're whole point was to @ lying me he's not interested.
IDGF what you're thoughts are on if UFC will offer it.

He would take a fight with Merab IF OFFERED. He's not pushing for it. And the UFC is not offering it. Just admit when you're wrong bro.

No just being stupid pretending you know the ufc plans and a gaslighting motherfucker. Any way word it saying Pantoja has NO INTEREST is a lie in direct conflict with any recent interview of him saying he'd accept that fight.

Umar definitely deserves a rematch.

Merab also dislikes him enough to want to fight him again.

So hopefully it's something we see.

I'd rather see that than some of the fights Merab has been hinting at.
He was lucky to get his first titleshot after beating one ranked opponent.

And you think he deserves another if he beats Bautista ffs.

I didn't say Pantoja has NO INTEREST in a fight with Merab, you are twisting my words now. I said he wants to stay at flyweight and not move to bantamweight.

Based on the way the UFC has handled the Ilia and Islam situations, they don't seem interested in having simultaneous two-division champions anymore. So if he's not planning on moving up, why would they offer him the Merab fight?

"Umar has obviously done enough to earn a rematch, no need to take any other fights. I had him winning against Merab, too."

UFC should prevent titleshots to contenders who fight less often than the champ. Guess Merab would get no one, but there's always the "win a fight and wait" shit top 5 guys do and UFC seems to not care about it. Umar should get 2 in, but Merab might be out of opponents and honestly Umar gave Merab more of a run for his money than Sean did.

Merab is quickly running out of people to fight. I wouldn't mind if they give the winner of Umar/Bautista the next title shot.

There isn't even any other big BW fights booked right now for contenders besides this one.

if Merab and Umar wins their next fight they can fight each other, why should Umar fight another one and waste time ?
it will be more complicated if one of them loses the next scheduled fight

Why does umar deserve a rematch exactly?

He doesn't deserve it, but if Umar and Merab both win, who else deserves a crack at the title? Hed have beaten Omalley and Yan twice, Cejudo is retiring, Sandhagen just lost (and lost to Umar), Bautista will no longer be an option, Chito Vera isn't a real option...we are talking some long shots like Yadong if he defeats Omalley or maybe Zahabi if defeats Chito get aligned, otherwise maybe Talbott if he gets by Cejudo gets groomed. But in reality, its likely Umar or Pantoja.
