UFC releases Yushin Okami

Guess Okami should have just started acting like Nick Diaz and no showing, flipping cameras off, and acting a fool and he would have not only been not cut but he would be rich and getting title shots after losing fights.

UFC has lost all credibility with me from here on out. Cutting one of their own self proclaimed top 10 guys just takes the cake.

Wow, top 5 type fighter who was like 3-1 in his last 4. That's the UFC for you.

It's a pathetic display yet Lomard is the one who decided to hold on Okami doing nothing.

It's his fault as much as anybodies Hector didn't have the energy to finish Okami. Meanwhile, Okami did the smart thing and fought off his back when he was still hurt avoided taking anymore damage.

Nothing Okami did in that last round can accurately be called 'fighting.' Should have lost by forfeit. I can't stand Lombard, but that was pathetic.

Yushin Okami would be the perfect guy to step up and give Tim Kennedy a test in the main event of the upcoming fight for the troops card. He's a big enough name to headline a card like that, he'd be the perfect replacement IMO but they cut him so it's not gonna happen. Joe Silva will probably throw Bubba McDaneils in there instead cause thats a better fight. Ha Ha Ha....

Surprising cut, but he was probably costing them too much considering his performances as of late and wouldn't take a pay cut so off to bellator or whoever picks him up.

He should have lost by forfeit because he fought off his back? Okami was striking he landed some knees. Anyways, Lombard could have decided to stand then Yushin would have been forced up instead Hector jumped between Yushin's leg then did nothing significant.

lol Not going to say the end of the fight was some impressive display, but come on man.

...

Dan Hardy and Chris Leben can lose 10 fights in a row but because they are one dimensional fighters and just fight like human punching bags they get to keep their jobs but a TRUE MMA practitioner like Okami who has skills in all facets of the game gets cut because he is well rounded? Makes a ton of sense.
...

Yushin doesn't seem to have the "go get 'em" attitude, but he has some finishes where it's like he was in the right place at the right time rather than he went out and grabbed the finish.

I'd rather not watch sloppy, gassed out fighters fighting like rock 'em sock 'em robots. It's bad for the sport, and doesn't really exhibit martial arts skill.

Instead of just cutting guys, UFC should get some other Chuck Liddell or Matt Hughes type company man retiree to fill the position of UFC VP of Fighter Whisperer. A guy who straightens out fighter mental games or psychological issues or lack of the go get 'em attitude for guys like Yushin, Uriah, Crocop, Mir, Gomi, BJ. Like a corporate turn around expert to salvage their investment in the fighter. The guys have skills, but just need a motivational expert to unlock the potential sort of like how Nolan Ryan had his talk with Randy Johnson or Roger Clemens had his talk with Curt Schilling.

Leben makes as much or more than him. Compare their respective performances over the last couple of years.

IF that ever happens on a much larger scale, then at that point they will make the proper adjustments to bring you and people like you back. But until then they'll keep doing what is working best for them at the moment. I really have my doubts that that many knowledgeable fans are going to start to hold the UFC accountable on such a large scale anytime soon and enough to make a difference.

Lets not turn this into an IMDB page where someone says noooooo you killed Jimmy!

Im never watching Boardwalk AGAIN!!1

We all love MMA, but ive been watching a bit less since the Fitch thing.

Politely, please consider Top10 cuts do damage the credibility of the sport.

They are promoting a degree of choreography in doing this.

They are also removing a "spoiler" as the previous poster said, which in real life means, they are removing a barrier to hyped up guys getting title shots.

Top 10 should be sacred. Top 15 should be sacred for that matter, to stop them putting top 10 guys at position 11 just so that they can cut them.

But yeh, top 10 should be sacred.

You keep referring to it as 'fighting' when all he did was cover up and, when he could, move away.

Okami did strike with him then he got tagged.

Lombard did nothing on top and willingly went to the ground with no intention to do anything. Lombard was cool with going to the scorecards. Both are guilty.

A guy that gets knocked out that frequently and has no chin is not top 10, the rankings were garbage. His best "wins" were unwatchable decisions where he just stalled for 15 minutes and tried to avoid fighting as much as possible.

I agree Okami wouldve been a good replacement. Idk if he would've been off of medical suspension and had time to train by then though.

For some reason I thought he was on a 2 fight loss streak but he only lost to Jacare and got released  damn that sucks

It's not like I wanted Okami to be cut. I'm just being realistic.

For the most part the people who care about Okami being cut are the ones who are pretty much locked into watching the UFC regardless, for example, someone who would regularly post on an MMA forum. And the ones who may or may not buy UFC's products for the most part don't care and might not even know who Okami is.

"Credibility of the sport" doesn't mean anything unless enough people who claim to care about the credibility of the sport are ready to make a sacrifice and that's exactly what the UFC is counting on not happening.

Well he wasnt beating the champ or Weidman. He could however beat any up and comer thats exciting. So that is why he is being cut.

This. Just like Fitch, he couldn't beat the champ, but could beat most of the contenders, and he created a stalemate in the division. A boring stalemate.

Good riddance Yushin. Become an entertainer and maybe you'll be back.
