UFC releases Yushin Okami

It is crazy. Come on.

UFC is supposed to be 'ultimate proving ground' or whatever the fuck they keep talking about.

And that premiere MMA org in the world releases long time elite MW, while Papy fucking Abedi and Sexyama are still among 'elite' in teh UFC. :icon_lol:

Papy and his cigars were cast off, as well.

You act as if this is contingent on whether Okami is still on the roster or not. Okami is still a top MW. Jacare's name and hype at the moment has skyrocketed because of him. Having fighters around like him allow for us to see if these "younger guys" are actually legitimate.

Doesn't it free up money not going to Okami? He's plateaued. I like him but I'm not sure what people want.

He didn't make it to a title shot the first time he lost to Chael. They gave him a chance again and he made it to a title shot and lost. They then gave him a great chance to get back to the title again and he lost. I like him a lot but they're just moving on. I don't think it's anything personal.

It's not that crazy. He's getting into his 30's. He lost his chance at the belt and he lost his chance at getting back to a title shot already. Not sure why people want them to keep him if that much. He's not a big fan favorite and now they'll be able to sign some younger guys.

Expected better from you. Fuck the younger guys, Okami is still a top ten.

I'm genuinely outraged by this. Not even a big fan of Okami but this guy has fought his ass off for years, has beaten almost everybody, yet gets cut because he's too expensive (we have to assume).

Wow, this is getting serious. He lost one fight and 3 before that, how can they cut him? I wasn't a huge fan, but man wtf?

Good cut. He was an extremely boring fighter with a terrible chin that only tries to win points based decisions. Glad I don't have to watch him anymore.

Fuck it I'll bite you douchebag.

So a fighter that has been in the top ten is all the sudden mediocre and overrated? The guy has racked up some nice wins on his resume and only lost to some of the best in the division aside from Boetsch who he was beating the living fuck out of untill he got stopped.

It's not the W/L record that really determines everything. He has looked bad even winning, such as in his split decision win against Lombard. He wins primarily by way of wrestle-fuck or "position" with low damage output. His loss to Boetch is primarily the reason the "Barbarian" was given so much credibility, which was terrible in my mind: Boetch is a guy that rose above his station, for sure. Why did it happen? Because Okami thought he could do something besides decision his opponent by humping him for fifteen and then crumbled in the face of a determined offense by Boetch. It wasn't like Boetch one-punched him; he caught and flustered him and he folded like a piece of paper. His performance against Anderson Silva was reminiscent of a dear caught in the headlights. It seemed that his game plan was to go in and tire Anderson out by absorbing every punch the man threw. Anyone who couldn't tell Okami's career is on a downward trajectory is just blind. The man is not a serious contender in the best organization in the world.

Wooooahhhhhh, I figured this was a joke thread... This is worse then the Fitch release even by the companies standards because Okami is ranked 3rd in the division, even according to the company!

Anderson said "it's normal"

It's not fucking "normal". He's 3-1 and is the best Japanese fighter we have. Anderson is wrong.

Doesn't it free up money not going to Okami? He's plateaued. I like him but I'm not sure what people want.

That's not really the point. The criticism is that they're not maintaining the best fighters possible on the roster. That's one of the key drawing points of the UFC and the only reason why anyone should ever tolerate a single dominant promotion.

Err, this isnt that wierd a cut, but if this is how the UFC are going to run things, Bisping and Munoz should be getting worried right now
