UFC releases Yushin Okami

wow, always thought yushin was overrated but still...thats a bad cut. plenty of people would lose to jacare, doesnt mean they need to be cut

The case could be made anyone at MW would or could lose to Jacare. Not sure it's the case I'd make, but I've heard people say it and I don't think it's unrealistic.

If the reason is as someone else said that the "roster is packed" then that's nonsense too. Cut Uriah Hall he lost two uninspiring fights in a row to much lower level competition.

Understandable. As good as Okami is, I doubt he is much of a draw for PPV, and with his last few fights it made sense to get rid of him after jacare, otherwise he'd keep smothering up and comers. i doubt they need a gatekeeper that tough.

look forward to see what he can do elsewhere, maybe he'll be back.

How long until Dana comes to tell us that he's on the downside of his career?
Solid top-10 fighter, shouldn't have been released.
edit: If losing to Jacare means you don't belong in the UFC, just cut the entire middleweight division.

Worst thing about this is Dana can get away with it. He'll go off about how it was justified and he was on 'the downslope'. And if Okami goes somewhere else and wins, Dana says "See, even our cut guys can destroy competition in other orgs". And if Okama goes somewhere else and loses, Dana says "See, he deserved to be cut, because he wasn't all that good".

I don' t agree with the cut however I am not to torn up about it. I think Okami has probably peaked as a fighter and his 3 losses albeit to good fighters were TKO's. He could have been kept around as a gatekeeper to the top ten. He he was not cut who would you guys have him fight next?

It's not that crazy. He's getting into his 30's. He lost his chance at the belt and he lost his chance at getting back to a title shot already. Not sure why people want them to keep him if that much. He's not a big fan favorite and now they'll be able to sign some younger guys.

You act as if this is contingent on whether Okami is still on the roster or not. Okami is still a top MW. Jacare's name and hype at the moment has skyrocketed because of him. Having fighters around like him allow for us to see if these "younger guys" are actually legitimate.

Okami was probably paid decently and he is no middleweight contender anymore. Acceptable released and Okami can move to Bellator or stay in Japan and fight there.

It is crazy. Come on.

UFC is supposed to be 'ultimate proving ground' or whatever the fuck they keep talking about.

And that premiere MMA org in the world releases long time elite MW, while Papy fucking Abedi and Sexyama are still among 'elite' in teh UFC. :icon_lol:

Brilliant business move.

You let him get a streak going without having to pay him and then re-sign him for a big/mid-level fight to boost ppv buys. If his career tanks then each fight he loses is a good 60k saved.

Sucks to see him go but we can still watch him fight and he'll probably be back.

all he has to do is win a fight and chael sonnen will get him back in.

3-1 in his last 4 with 1 win being a top 10 opponent and ranked as the #3 MW (I think).. Complete BS, I'm actually kinda pissed.

Bellator will have a new champ now though

He is the #6 Middleweight out of 58 in UFC and they cut him?
