UFC releases Yushin Okami

worse and less warranted cut than Fitch and I am not a big fan of Okami's style

apparently they cut him because "our roster is packed"...

The good news is that it now makes enough sense to cut Clay guida.

if they cut Clay Guida, Bellator will be all over him, which more likely to happen with Okami now.

They have to give some talent to Bellator. So they trim the fighters that aren't necessarily the most exciting/on the downturn of their career

does anyone really enjoy watching Okami fight?

wow, always thought yushin was overrated but still...thats a bad cut. plenty of people would lose to jacare, doesnt mean they need to be cut

Wow. That's pretty filing insane. Bellators roaster keeps getting better!

It's not that crazy. He's getting into his 30's. He lost his chance at the belt and he lost his chance at getting back to a title shot already. Not sure why people want them to keep him if that much. He's not a big fan favorite and now they'll be able to sign some younger guys.

Maybe they have just made their prediction that Okami's time as a top contender has already come and gone and are just hoping for the best like they did with Fitch. Unfortunately for Fitch, it turned out they were exactly right about him. I hope Okami can prove them wrong in his first fight after the UFC.

And damn, Japanese fighters in the UFC have become a serious letdown. It looks like we may never see a Japanese fighter win a title at all, ever. Hioki was supposed to turn things around for Japanese fighters in the UFC and man did that turn out to be a mega bust of the highest order.

Are Japanese just not as good at fighting as Americans and Brazilians or are there other factors in play here?

I don't normally get rustled by cuts not even the Fitch one, but this is a fucking disgrace he was one of the most marketable Asian fighters and had dominant wins over a string of top quality fighters.

Please do fucking explain how Fitch cut was a bigger deal.

Pretty sure Okami has more ranked wins. Both were bad cuts, that I agree.

He might have one more after beating Lombard. The fact is, both were clearly top 10 fighters when they were cut. Both cases are ridiculous if we are to believe that one of the UFC's primary aims is to maintain the highest quality of fighters possible.
