Media UFC 319: Dricus vs Adesanya flashback

It's true. Everyone was picking Izzy & when DDP started gassing even myself thought it was about to be a wrap. But DDP pushed thru like a true champion & showed the world he is dangerous even when exhausted.

True. Dricus was winning the fight 2-1 on judge's card despite Adesanya thinking he was winning the fight until he lost. Though, the 4th round was going in Adesanya's direction until he pointed to the ground. Rest is history.

Yeah dude looked done, but then he pulled off that finishing sequence and my brain exploded. It was like he had a can of emergency 1st round cardio in his back pocket and looked amazing out of no where. I've been doubting DDP this whole time, and still picking Khamzat to beat him. Maybe people like me will never learn their lesson. Still respect the guy for what he's pulled off.

Dude was eating some nasty body shots from Izzy and still pushed through, rocked Izzy and got the finish. He’s beaten the two most technical strikers in the division, and maybe the whole UFC, at their own game. Not sure Khabib is on the right track telling Chimaev he should strike with DDP..

Izzy got old.

Typical analogy of when the fighter you favor loses, suddenly he is no good anymore. Same thing is going to happen to Khamzat. Right now, he is this unbeatable takedown machine. If Dricus beats Khamzat or worse. takes Khamzat down and submits him, suddenly Khamzat is going to be past his prime or that he was surrounded by too many bad people who steered him in the wrong direction, which made his skills regress.

Adesanya himself said repeatedly that he was the best version of himself. He was 34 - 35 at the time of the fight. He did look faster than usual and he added more muscle size (he said, he weighed 208 - 209 lbs for the fight) and worked on his TTD for this fight. He simply had been figured out once Strickland won that he does not fight well on the back foot under pressure. Dricus simply used that.

BTW, Dricus submitted Adesanya and took him down at will. Adesanya was a point fighter. A so-called "prime" Adesanya would have gotten submitted by Dricus even faster.

Prime Izzy is the most overrated fighter in history. Couldn't even finish a senior citizen Anderson or yoel. He is right where he should be fringe top 5

So true. The only person who he ever fought, that had any grappling worth a cr*p before Dricus, was Jan and he destroyed him on the ground.

Overrated? Eight title wins and dominant champion for years? Reality isn’t on your side buddy. Adesanya is the greatest champion of the modern era

Just admit your BUTT HURT HATER.

being an izzy fan, i'd like to believe that, But I think Any version of izzy loses. Not gritty enough to beat dricus. It's why Izzy tried his hardest to Fight a compromised Dricus or duck the fight entirely.

it was the first time i've seen a lack of confidence from Izzy.

All he needed to win was not get taken down for one more round.

If employed his usual defensive distance (but less crowd friendly) style he would have cruised to a win

Coulda, shoulda, woulda. None of that matter. Learn to give credit to the better fighter. Dricus finished him. Period. Adesanya simply cannot fight on his back foot when faced with a lot of pressure. He relies on his opponent wanting to be careful messing with his sound defense. Dricus with his relentless pressure and was always attacking, looking for a finish, which is why he could not maintain distance due to the chaotic style. Typical Adesanya style of maintaining distance while outpointing Dricus was simply not an option with Dricus fighting style. Nor could he deal with Dricus' grappling. Those are facts. That is exactly why Dricus won. You don't always have to be dismissive of Dricus' achievements.
