UFC 270: N'Gannou vs. Gane

I'm seeing some people claiming that Ngannou is "distracted" because he's "focused on boxing".

This is one of the stupidest arguments I've seen here in a long time.

1) Before Ngannou ever trained, his goal was to be boxing world champion. He didn't even know what MMA was when he got to France. He has consistently expressed this goal over the years while he was cutting through the UFC and it never stopped him from being the most terrifying KO artist MMA has ever seen.

2) Ciryl Gane has also been doing interviews saying that he is determined to box Tyson Fury and Wilder:

Interviewer: Would you like to test yourself in boxing one day?

Ciryl Gane: Yes, exactly. Exactly. When I decided to start MMA, it was 50/50 with the boxing. You see, when I started MMA I saw that it was possible to make money....I was aware also that you have more money in the boxing than in the MMA. So that's why I did some training with some guys some team in boxing, and I tried a little bit at the MMA Factory. But I chose MMA Factory because it was easier. It was close to my house and Fernand Lopez was a friend of the dad of my best friend.

But why not? Why not? I feel comfortable with the boxing style also. I like to have the big gloves and to see everything. You can play a little bit more. For me, you can play a little bit more with the boxing style.

Interviewer: Whom would you like to face in the boxing ring?

Ciryl Gane: I don't know exactly but of course the top! Of course.

Interviewer: If you could pick just one name right now, who would you like to face?

Ciryl Gane: All the guys at the top, of course. I will have to train hard for this. You have Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder. You have a lot of guys just below in the top 10. So yes, why not? One day I'm going to try.

Hardy is a great play. I wish I would have gotten him as the underdog. I wouldn't touch Francis vs Gane with a 10 foot pole, I have no idea what the fuck is going to happen in that one.

I dunno about great. Oleynik has a massive advantage on the ground. All he has to do is get him down and it’s a wrap

He's extremely slow and chinny though, and Greg is good for one quick flurry. If he hurts Oleyinik like he did Tai, I think he wins it. The under is probably safer since I can't see them lasting over 1.5 rounds in all honesty.

Hardy is a lot bigger and stronger, has a pretty heavy sprawl and can hurt you with ground and pound. I'm not saying Hardy is a lock or anything, but I really like him at those odds. Greg has shit cardio but so does Oleynik at this point.

I don’t think his chin is too bad considering his age and amount of fights he’s had. I’d rather play his sub line. He has so much more experience than hardy and he’s such a specialist.

Hardy has never fought anyone like him and I’m not sure if hardy can avoid getting dragged to the ground. Oleynik can close the distance with his overhand, clinch up and fall backwards.

Oleynik gets his take downs from clinch, I don’t think sprawling will be a factor

oleynik has a nack for getting the fight where he wants it. I’d have to go back and watch tape but he rarely just gets sparked without getting his opponent on the ground

Enjoy your ban.

The main event is close enough that a small underdog bet on either fighter is a decent one

This thought has been in the back of my mind ever since they first booked this fight. Man, this is close. It seems to be able to go either way. I will not be surprised if Gane comes out popping Ngannou with jabs and low kicks, nor will I be surprised if Ngannou immediately slips a Gane punch and sends him to the Shadow Realm.

I don't understand anyone taking Francis and not taking his KO line, +120 area still holds more value then his ML, if it goes past 2 rounds it has to because Gane has avoided early damage or survived it and is finding his groove

I have a hunch that Fig rights the ship and TKO's Moreno. In their 2nd fight Fig seemed out of sorts. I would expect a performance closer to what he did in the 1st fight, making his current odds worth playing.

Oleynik got Derrick Lewis to the mat and held him down for 1 round. I see no reason why he can't do the same to Hardy. I think Oleynik has some value here.

I don't think I can call a side on Gane-Francis. I acknowledge Gane has the technical edge to Francis, but I don't think I can stomach betting any significant amount of $ against Francis these days. I love how he's looked recently, and see no reason why he shouldn't be able to find an opening at some point in the fight.

It wasn't so long ago that people were all proclaiming that Volkov would be able to wear Gane down and humble him. Fast forward half a year and that's proven false. But I don't think wins against Volkov and Derrick Lewis catapult a fighter from "he needs to prove himself" to "OMG he can pick Francis apart for 5 rounds".

There's not much difference in the payout tbh and I think Francis is capable of winning a decision. Its more likely he TKOs him sure but not worth it when you're getting plus money on his ML (on my book anyways) especially in a parlay.

Hardy/Olyniek u1.5 at around -200 is amazing value. Should be -400 imo. Hardy may be patient at times, but Alexei isn't. He will try to close distance and get ahold of Hardy from the start. And he either will, and will drag him down and sub him quickly or he'll get sparked.

disagree, can easily see it going 3, specially if Hardy sticks and moves or Oly just grinding on him against cage and pulling guard

IMO Hardy's footwork isn't anywhere near good enough to stay away from someone like Alexei who only knows one way to approach the standup (wing overhands that either land or close distance enough to allow him to clinch up). Alexei is old and slow, but not enough so that he can't close distance on a guy like Hardy. Maybe I end up looking dumb if Hardy plays pop a shot on the outside all night, but I just don't see that happening at all.

And Hardy's grappling is just not good enough to avoid being subbed if they're on the mat more than a few seconds. Aleksei isn't strong enough to just hold Hardy against the cage imo, so if they are in close he's probably figuring a way to get it to the ground or he's getting blasted before he can do that. I honestly give this about a 2 in 3 chance of ending in round 1.

I've been wrong before, could be here too. But I really think this one ends quickly.

The only bet in the Hardy fight IMO is the guy with 3000000 fights

Charles Jourdain stepping in to fight Ilia Topuria on short notice. Topuria will be favored but I think Jourdain is a live dog.
