UFC 251: Usman vs. Masvidal (7/11)

I think Masvidal was Dustin's main training partner for the hooker fight so he has been getting rounds in i assume

I think some clarification about Max's power:

Nobody is saying it's fun getting punched by him. But compare him to Hooker ( who was a FW too, though a giant one). Hooker HURT Poirier when he landed clean. Had him in serious trouble in Rd 2, maybe gets a finish if he has another minute. Dustin even acknowledged he was badly hurt by the punches even before the knee landed. Max had his moments vs Dustin too but nothing Max ever landed seemed to affect Dustin.

Volk is a tank. No, it's not impossible for him to be put away by Max but we are talking likelihoods and probabilities. It's hard to envision it.

I like that my boys Ascension and Monster meat

are with me but I definitely DONT like being against a juice playing Mkess

True...but I would NOT play Volk at -240 or whatever he is now. I am okay with the -190 I got but don't love it.

Mas talks about betting on himself at around 20:30.

I can’t believe that’s legal. Couldn’t a fighter bet on themselves to win by decision and purposely not finish a sub or rise up for ground and pound?

@mkess101 and @Sadistics initial thoughts on Mas/Usman?

I think ML is capped about right. I figured Usman between -250 and -300 and that's where he landed.

I'm gonna keep an eye out on props. There's a few I'll be interested to see prices on.

The look on Ariel's face is priceless.

I think technically, a straight bet on yourself is legal. Any props, or betting on the opponent, obviously, would not be. Though I’m sure it’s happened many more times than we know of.

It would be pretty easy for a big favorite to carry a lesser opponent for 15 minutes, but the payout on those props usually don’t amount to all that much, given the tiny limits on them at most books. I’m sure it’s worth it for some of the undercard guys barely scraping by on their paycheques though.

I have to give credit to Masvidal. I thought he was buying into his own hype but I guess it worked. He passed on the fight originally because the UFC didn't offer enough and bided his time until they had to.

Win or lose I assume he makes way more than Usman. He probably just got Kamaru some extra money from the PPV points too. Watching Till drop him with one punch makes me think Usman probably KO's him though.

Kudos either way to Gamebred, the man knows how to show up in style. Flying private seems like a fuck you to the champ.

I really gotta tape before I can offer much more than the obvious, but some pre tape thoughts: I don't like how hittable Usman is and he seems too prideful to exit the fire when hurt, instead looking to get it back. I don't think anyone but Maia has controlled Mas on the mat, while Usman struggled to get "No TDD" Meek down. Maybe there was something to the "30% Usman" in that fight?

Lots of x factors too, short notice for Mas, new camp/opponent for Usman, Mas training and being cornered by Bo, on top of all the Abu Dhabi and covid factors. It's certainly an uphill battle for Masvidal.

The limits don't apply in Vegas though. It would be very easy for someone fighting in Vegas to get down 50k on an over/under if they spread it around at various casino sportsbooks. Honestly, I would be surprised if some of the fighters didn't do this.

Just bet your life savings on the under. Try your hardest to finish the guy in round 1. If you don't get the job done then let him finish you in the first minute of round 2. Voila you just made 50k+

Its official, Jorge vs Usman.
Will be a fun fight.

My degenerate opinion is that Jorge TKO's him within 4 rounds, catches him with his boxing. I believe the body kicks are there and he will throw a few to throw Usman off but won't risk a heavy kicking game due to Usman's wet blanket style.
Or Usman just fucking lays on him for 5 rounds to a decision. I truly cannot see Usman TKO/KOing Jorge.

I don't know who Bo Nickal is and had to wiki him.

You guys forget that Usman is a very smart fighter. He will not stand and bang with Masvidal 5 rounds like he did with Colby. Covington is a pillow fisted fighter so Usman didn't have to worry about getting Ko'ed by him. Masvidal is a different animal. Remember how Usman fought against Woodley? I see the same strategy vs Masvidal.

Ya'll want some funny, watch the first 5 seconds of the Masvidal vs Darren Till fight

Mas runs across the cage, little like he did before the flying knee on Askren, and kicks Till right in the nuts

Timestamped

he did this to Nate and fucked with his head. Nate didn't wana get KO'd or get his nuts fucking kicked in.
