I've done the exact same play too, big as well. Unfortunately, I lack your confidence.
So excited for this card.
Cause he wanted the biggest payday possible, not cause hes scared. Also have to take into account that Woodley clearly did not want to fight WB. That is telling on how confident he is.
I'd be more worried with JJ

Not disagreeing with that, just pointing that out since SBJJ's post suggests its cause of lack of confidence he wanted GSP or Diaz. I don't believe that for a second, genuinely think the dude just wanted some big money.Woodley is in no position to demand mega fights/big paydays. He waited 18 months i think to fight and hasnt even defended the belt yet. Yeah he was trying to get a big payday but he clearly was trying to avoid a first defence against wb. Wasnt he calling out diaz? Lol perfect fight for him stylistically

I don't think hes worried about anyone. The dude has a few kids, hadn't fought in forever, and i'd assume his payday would be much bigger against GSP or DiazAgree he wanted big money fight but he wanted that first rather than defend the belt first cos he is very worried by wb imo.

Woodley is talking mega shit to WB without the slightest hint of fear. I never have and never will understand these discussions about a top level professional fighter losing confidence or being afraid when faced with a specific opponent. Its nonsense to me, i'd never factor that into a bet
Eh, we can agree to disagree. You're basically saying Woodley is so worried about WB that hes chasing other guys first. I don't think thats the case in the slightest. Hes champion for a reason. I'm sure hes confident he'll fuck anyone up. Dude just wanted the biggest payday possible.Im not saying hes scared of wb as such i think hes scared of losing the belt which is a good thing of course but he knows wb represents a big threat and if he loses the belt he loses those potential big pay days hence why he was trying to get one in before defending against wb. Cant blame him for trying.

But the favorable matchups have nothing to do with it. Its about the money. If fighting WB paid more than GSP or Diaz, I have zero doubt Woodley would have called him out.I think hes chasing other guys who will give him a bigger payday first yes and i guess you cant blame him. I think thats the wrong mentality tho defend your belt at least once him asking for favourable stylistic match ups for bigger paydays just sends out the wrong signals for me. Just my 2 cents tho.

You're both right. I'm sure he thinks he'll beat WB (I don't, but I agree he thinks he will) but he knows WB is a legit threat and if he loses to WB then the chance for the potentially bigger payday vs GSP or Diaz goes away. That said, he might make as much or more fighting on this mega card than headlining a card vs Diaz that was weak (GSP returning would get him paid though, no question). This is all of course assuming Woodley gets any cut of ppv $. If he doesn't, his contract pretty much dictates what he makes.
Didn't mean to do that, but it seemed you were alluding to lacking confidence against WB. Maybe scared is a bit strong, but its not exactly far off from the same thing. Why is taking a statement out of context in this forum so prevalent. I NEVER said Woodley was scared of anyone. But to say he is as confident in defending against WB as he would be against Diaz or GSP is crazy. And it was so apparent in his interviews.

I was peeved at first too, cause selfishly as a fan I agree with you regarding defending the belt. But this is the hurt business, and Woodley has every right to chase the fight thats going to be best for him and his family financially. I'm not mad at him.
Agreed. But it is and was obvious that Woodley thought this fight was very dangerous. He really seemed to think WB might steal his payday.
I'm amazed so many seem to think that these fighters never have doubts in their minds. These are humans.
Look at boxing. Dudes ducking guys right & left. The only reason u don't see it more in the UFC(even though guys do decline fights) is because it is ran more like a business then boxing. Hard to tell your boss u are not gonna fight in the UFC
