Naw not even close, people are already re-writing the fight to say that it was competitive when in actuality it was 12+ minutes of JDS just lighting Hunt up.
Round 1- Hunt lands only 5 strikes...JDS lands 20
Round 2- Hunt lands 20 strikes, his best round by far. JDS lands 35
Round 3- Hunt lands only 9...JDS lands 25.
Total Hunt 34 and JDS 80
I was rooting for hunt because of the story, but this was not even close to a competitive fight, there was a flash of Hunt in the second round and then he was taken down and smothered. But no way this was the best HW fight ever.
Couture vs. Nogueira, Sylvia vs. Nogueira, Couture vs. Rizzo I and Rizzo vs. Barnett are all up there too
Best HW MMA fight is still Nogueira vs. Cro Cop, which is also the best fight in Pride history imo
That fight felt like it could end on either side at any moment the entire time. I call that competitive.
I do not like to pretend that all main events are main-event worthy or that all dominating performances show improvement in the winner—you only need to look at how little I wrote about Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva to see that I don't have time to hype gift fights or waffle about matches which don't interest me.
I bet he didn't analyze Barboza/Varner for the same reason.
Great breakdown. Hunt did better than most people think, and Junior is simply a savage !
I bet he didn't analyze Barboza/Varner for the same reason.
If this is the Best Match of UFC Heavyweight history then the fights in this division must really suck.
At any rate, I disagree that this is the best from the UFC Heavyweights thus far.
