HBO's DC series Lanterns has found its Hal Jordan. Emmy winner Kyle Chandler is set to play the legendary member of the Green Lantern Corps in the series, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. The show will be the first series role for the Friday Night Lights star since Showtime’s 2022 drama Super Pumped.

Lanterns, which scored a straight-to-series order in June after years of development, comes from Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, Lost) and Eisner Award-winning comics writer Tom King. The trio are co-writing and executive producing the series, with Mundy serving as showrunner.

The show, which falls under the HBO banner, is casting and in the middle of hiring directors. The series is looking to shoot from next January to June in Atlanta.

Lanterns is described as having a gritty, True Detective vibe as it focuses on Jordan reluctantly mentoring a younger Lantern, John Stewart, who in DC publishing history was one of the company’s first Black superheroes. The story sees the two characters investigating an Earth-bound murder with larger implications. Sources say that DC and the producers are looking for a young, more fresh-faced actor for the role to play opposite an older and bigger name.

DC initially was looking for a movie star to take on the Jordan role and had been in talks with Josh Brolin, who ultimately passed. And while rumors abounded that actors such as Chris Pine or Ewan McGregor were next on the list, that turned out to be mostly wishful thinking.

Chandler became a name thanks to his Emmy-winning turn as Coach Eric Taylor in the beloved Friday Night Lights television series that aired on NBC from 2006 to 2011. He returned to series work with the Netflix thriller Bloodline, which earned him two Emmy nominations. In recent years he has popped up in movies big and small, among them Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong as well as Damien Chazelle’s Neil Armstrong biopic First Man.

that is the absolute worst....

Never watched Fringe, now halfhway through it.
Not very consistent, but very good at times.

Walter Bishop is top 20 in Sci Fi characters
Peter Bishop has a very punchable face
Olivia was so hot, until I saw her channeling Leonard Nimoy.

Also, I think Walternate and Fauxlivia are hilarious names.
I actually miss that show.

I actually miss that show.

Now halfway season 5
Fauxlivia is hot in a different kinda way too.
Anna Torv looks better than her daugher.

I watched Person of Interest before this and both had JJ Abrams as producer.
Am I missing any other shows from his run on TV ?

I heard good things about another show : Dollhouse

I'm sure you've seen Alias? I watched the first season and part of the second but never finished it. Maybe I should do that.

Official Teaser Trailer for HBO's THE LAST OF US Season 2

Alias is awesome. I started rewatching on Disney+ and I think they replaced some songs from TV version, maybe DVD version too. The main character is a girl and is super capable but it's not in your face like Disney is known for. Lots of good characters. The main actress isn't super hot but overachieves and often looks very good.

I just saw an article that said even though Warrior got buzz from being watched by many on Netflix, there will be no Season 4.

Watched about 1.3 episodes of Agatha on Disney+ and seems too shitty to continue. The first episode seemed so irrelevant to anything Marvel.

Alias is great but its the old TV model where shows have 20-24 eps per season with some filler stuff going on.

but i recently re watched the entire thing with the wifey and its still pretty good. Jennifer Garner is actually hot in that show

I just watched the 1st episode of The Penguin on Max. Colin Farrell is going to win awards for this. He has totally transformed himself--the look, the talk....it's amazing to watch him. Really great performances all around. Violent and dark, very Gotham so far.

I really hope they have some scary episodes where they have to fight off Fungal Zombies. But we will probably get more drama episodes dedicated to Gay relationships and acceptance. We will see. Such great performances and concept. I think The Koreans nail the monster stuff better than Americans at this point.
