Finished up the 7th, the final, season of The Shield and its awesome.
The best way to view Season 6 is the first half of the final season because there really wasn't a finale and the final episode didn't wrap up any season-long storylines or any epic tension-filled action.
The season truely is the finale of show in many ways while giving many characters subtle epilogues within the show itself, while not necessarily give any endings to many characters at all.
Julian, who was one one of the original characters as a rookie cop in the first season is still in the show and is the mentor of a rookie cop has absolutely no arc in the final three seasons other than just being a mentor. Dany is still there but has mostly been written off from any significant role in any of the storylines since the 5th season as well.
This season is mostly focused on Vic, Shane, and Ronnie finally has his time in the spotlight in this season, and its beautiful to watch. Its absolutely Shakespearean.
Only major complaint is this - I mentioned Vic & Asceveda's rivalry is what the early season's conflict was built upon, and here its now more muted than ever. I'm sure its probably because they couldn't find an angle to interweave it into the narrative, but I think there was potential that just was not taken advantage of.
Overall Rating - 9.3
Seems pretty bizarre I'm giving a high rating in a review I only mentioned 3 of 4 things that are complaints, but I studdied Shakespear's plays in High School so when I describe anything as 'Shakespearean' that is as highest possible praise, and complaints aren't really as bad as they sound.
Edit - Would like to add, to summarize my series if reviews of each season - Should you rewatch The Shield or watch it for the first time?
Absolutely.
