Television TV Show Thread

Just watched Raised by Wolves episodes 8 and 9. I'm starting to get "Lost" vibes from this show like they are just making up random stuff as they go without really explaining much.

I really liked the first 3 episodes of RAISED BY WOLVES. The pacing never drags, there is always a point. The story is not easily predictable and takes bold turns, mixed in with some haunting iconography.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN Live-Action Television Series in the Works at Netflix

qfS5LtU.jpg

Netflix has put in development an epic live-action series based on Conan, the iconic sword-and-sorcery character created by writer Robert E. Howard, according to Deadline.

The project, from Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler’s Pathfinder Media, is the first in a deal between Netflix and Conan Properties International, owned by Malmberg’s Cabinet Entertainment. The pact gives Netflix the exclusive option to acquire rights to the Conan literary library and develop works across TV and film, both live-action and animated.

The move would fit into Netflix’s strategy of acquiring globally recognizable IP to build an universe of films and TV series, including Roald Dahl’s novels, The Chronicles of Narnia books and comics publisher Millarworld.

A search is currently underway for a writer/showrunner to pen the Conan adaptation and director to helm the project. Malmberg and Wheeler will serve as executive producers on the potential series through their Pathfinder Media.

Pulp fiction author Howard introduced Conan the Barbarian, aka Conan the Cimmerian, in a series of short stories, first published in 1932 in Weird Tales magazine. The Conan stories ushered in a new genre of writing: Sword and Sorcery. Through the years the original tales have inspired over a thousand comic books, one hundred novels, three feature films, two television series, multiple video games, and a vast range of collectibles, toys, and more, worldwide.

The character was most famously played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1982 feature Conan the Barbarian, which made him a global superstar, as well as the 1984 sequel Conan the Destroyer. In the 2011 Conan the Barbarian reboot, produced by Malmberg, the title role was played by Jason Momoa.

Conan the Adventurer animated series and spinoff Conan and the Young Warriors ran from 1992-94, followed by a short-lived 1997 syndicated action-adventure series, Conan the Adventurer, toplined by Ralf Möller.

Two years ago, a Conan drama series, based on the works by Howard, was in development at Amazon from Ryan Condal, Miguel Sapochnik, Warren Littlefield, Pathfinder Media and Endeavor Content. Wheeler and Malmberg previously produced Syfy’s Blood Drive.

This one has been bouncing around and I wouldn't have too much faith in it. Netflix has done a few fantasies lately with Cursed, The Witcher, and Letter for the King. Only The Witcher has done well and it seemed super clunky to me. I'll rewatch it before season 2 because maybe I'm too critical but it felt goofy to me for sure. Like sometimes the graphics were good and sometimes laughable. Acting so-so. Pretty surprising it did as well as it did although it was better than Cursed or Letter for the King.

Newcomer Iman Vellani to Play the Title Role in Marvel Studios' MS. MARVEL

Marvel Studios has found its Ms. Marvel. Newcomer Iman Vellani has nabbed the role of the teenage superhero, who will headline her own Disney+ series before appearing on the big screen in Marvel films.

Marvel had been testing actors throughout the summer and had landed on Vellani by late August or early September, sources say. The Canadian actor hails from the Toronto area and a year ago took part in a Toronto International Film Festival committee that helped highlight films that speak to teenagers. She focused on Hala, a film centering on a Pakistani American teen pulled between her family and life in the West — themes that are echoed in the Ms. Marvel comics.

"We want stories from different genders and different countries and different people," Vellani said at the time.

Disney+'s Ms. Marvel centers on New Jersey teenager Kamala Khan, who broke ground in 2014 as Marvel's first Muslim character to star in her own comic book title. Her comics are known for exploring Kamala's identity as a Pakistani American living in a religious family while trying to find her own way.

Ms. Marvel is from head writer Bisha K. Ali and will be directed by Bad Boys for Life filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, as well as Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a two-time Oscar winner in the documentary short category, and Meera Menon, who has directed episodes of The Walking Dead, The Punisher and Titans.

Actor Kumail Nanjiani, who stars in the upcoming Marvel film The Eternalsand who was born in Pakistan, welcomed Vellani to the Marvel family Wednesday.

"I just saw they cast Ms. Marvel and legit got teary eyed. Congratulations Iman Vellani! Your work is going to mean so much to so many people, myself included. I can’t wait," Nanjiani wrote on Twitter.

Ms. Marvel is one of a number of shows Marvel Studios has lined up for Disney+, including WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which originally was set to bow this year and recently resumed production. Meanwhile, Tom Hiddleston's Loki was partially completed before the coronavirus shut it down.

Wow. Looks like there's a Home Improvement revival coming. This should last like two episodes before the idiots on Twitter demand that it gets cancelled because Tim Allen is a MAGA.

On another note, Richard Karn has aged really well. That dude looks the same as he did in the late 90s.

This is fucking awesome. I was hoping that Netflix would pick it up after Amazon cancelled it.

It will probably get cancelled unless they have a tool time person who doesn't identify with either gender. They should bring back all the girls though for the reunion.....well maybe not.

Look at those disgusting, conventionally attractive women. So problematic.

There needs to be a body positive tool girl.

I'm thinking someone in the mold of Lena Dunham with unshaven pits. That's the kind of representation that will make the show a huge hit.

On a serious note, never thought that I'd say this when I was younger, but goddamn I miss the 90s.

Tim allen looks pretty good for his age too imo

Tom Sturridge Land Lead in THE SANDMAN; Liam Hemsworth in Talks to Play Corinthian

DM8PkrV.jpg

It seems that Netflix has allegedly found someone who will portray Dream in the upcoming The Sandman series. According to a recent report by Collider, it will be Tom Sturridge playing the titular Endless, also known as Dream, Morpheus, Kai’ckul, and Oneiros. Netflix has yet to confirm the news or the rest of the cast.

Sturridge is best known for his role as Lord Byron in 2017’s Mary Shelley and as Carlo Marx in 2012’s On the Road. He recently starred in the Starz series Sweetbitter. His credits also include Dan Gilroy’s Velvet Buzzsaw and Terrence Malick’s Song to Song.

Meanwhile, /Film brings word that Liam Hemsworth and Dacre Montgomery are the current top choices to play The Corinthian, a major villain of The Sandman.

Dream made his debut in 1989 as the main protagonist of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman comic book series. In the comics, he is the ruler of the world of dreams. Before too long, a group of black magic occultists captures him and locks him for 72 years. Eventually, he manages to escape and tries to regain control of the dream world.

Recently, Gaiman took to Twitter to reveal that that production on the long-awaited series will soon commence. The author also recently revealed that there would be some divergences from the comic as the story will be set in the present. Netflix has yet to announce an official release date for the series.

Anybody watching Lovecraft Country?

It took me a few episodes to take a liking to it, but after the 3rd episode I finally figured out what the hell is going on. lol. Overall, I am enjoying it a lot. There is a main arc that will be told over the course of the series, and the single episode arcs. The latest episode is episode 7 which was pretty good. Jaime Chung is the main feature the entire episode, and she looks delicious. Decent nude scenes by her as well.

I have a hard time giving an objetive opinion because I read the book, so I knew it was a collection of wildly divergent stories, so the show’s structure didn’t bother me much.

But I understand that this is pissing off some viewers unfamiliar with the book.

I'd like to read that book. Yeah, the first two episodes, I was entertained, but highly confused!! <45>
