Them wanting to join at any point in history doesn't mean they were actually joining. They did not ever formally start the process.

When Russia started hostilities Ukraine was making efforts to actually join the EU, not NATO.

- people making decisions around Biden are clueless about local realities

You've just shifted goal posts from the start, you started with Russia had to invade because there were bases and they were in their right to invade, I pointed out there were no bases and you just ignored it and started shifting all over.

Then you said they wanted to join NATO, and then when I pointed out while it may be true Ukraine wanted to join NATO, their desire wasn't reciprocated by NATO, in reality they were flat out denied by France and Germany, so it doesn't really mean anything.

Do you think a country expressing a desire to join NATO is a reason to declare total war like we're seeing in Ukraine?
