Economy Trump's April 2nd Tariffs

More value lost than the 2008 global financial crisis

Note that at the bottom they admit it's not a legitimate comparison, though they don't actually share the math. The first drop was a loss of $8 trillion from a starting point of $14 trillion, or a 57% loss. The present drop is a loss of $9 trillion from a starting point of $54 trillion, or a 17% loss.

In other words, while there's more absolute value lost, in proportion it's still less than a third as bad as the 2008 crisis.

USA governments crypto assets down 6 billion since Dumb Trump took office. I am impressed with Trump’s ineptitude he has some how managed to melt the stock and crypto market.
Right behind the Union Workers in the Leopard eating faces line is the Crypto Bros.

America is now the most destructive country in the world. The actions of the Republicans will cause the world to hate us. I say Republicans because they have bent the knee to Trump and installed an Authoritarian regime. If you cannot see this you are the real problem.

End result will be American looses it’s allies, China becomes the greatest power on the planet and the American economy collapses.

Since the US is literally affecting the wealth and livelihood of almost everyone in the world will hate us. This is not just the US bombing some country….. it is a kitchen table issue for so many around the world and it will not be forgotten.

Dems have somehow managed to grow considerably more unpopular since the election and inauguration, a real feat to be sure. Aiming for less than 20% favorable soon.
I keep waiting for them to have an epiphany

like come on man just get it , don't you get it.

It's like they can't bring themselves to ask thee most important question.....what are we doing that is making people hate us so much that they would rather have Trump as president.

I'm baffled by the parties behavior and absolute lack of self awareness.

A lot of the current unfavorability stems from the fact that the democratic base thinks they are too pussy and are not doing enough to hinder Trump. Like Schumer not going with the Filibuster for example.

You know what the number one thing they did to not hinder Trump was?

I think it didn't matter. Post Covid Inflation was the biggest issue on like every exit poll across the country. The whole world suffered from that which is why every government across the world lost the last election cycle.
Don't say immigration because Trump literally veto'd a bipartisan immigration bill to keep that issue alive to run on.

Yeah I thought that would be clear to everyone since talking 2025 to 2008 dollars. In absolute value lost it's still greater.

Obviously the percentage isn't as much or the headline would be different

You've been kind of bombed in this thread, and I am sorry if you've explained this earlier but it's 86 pages so here goes:

Are you happy with the tariffs?

What would you want the outcome to be generally?

What would you want the outcome to be for those who are opposed to the US and manipulate the market (say, China)?

What would you want the outcome to be for those who are allied with the US and don't have tariffs on you (say, Australia)?

I'm sure we have different opinions but I'm interested to hear

The best outcome is whatever brings more revenue to the United States. I don't think the rest of the world really gives a shit about us, I'm tired of worrying about them. I gotta say, I think I've grown tired of playing Salvation Army to the rest of the world while our infrastructure crumbles and we have homeless people literally laying in the streets. Its ridiculous that our communities are too poor to build a school. Communities that once thrived are dead because they've lost their employment opportunities. If tariffs get a company or corporation to the negotiating table and they decide to build a factory here- good. If they come to the table and lower the tax on our products- good. I don't see how we don't come out better in the end.
I guess I'm happy someone is trying to do something that benefits Americans for once. I mean, sue me for being optimistic. I'd like to see something that helps myself and the people in my community. I'm hoping for the best.
I'd like to see good jobs return to struggling communities. I'd like to see communities that once flourished do so again. I'd like to see people feel some sort of pride in their work. Thats my idea of putting America first.

As for fair play with other countries, whats wrong with a reciprocal tariff? If Australia is good to us, we be good to them.

I also believe in increased tariffs on countries that exploit their people in sweat shops and slave labor. I think it makes the idea of "fair trade" very unfair if we can't produce a product for a similar cost. If Americans want to buy garbage built on the backs of slaves, then they should pony up the extra money or buy a product from someone who doesn't.

This post is a mess but I'm kind of tired so give me a break. All the pieces are there.

I'm sure our crumbling infrastructure has nothing to do with what have been neocon policies, going back to Regan, amirite?

We had 2 terms of Clinton and 2 terms of Obama. Neither addressed this issue. Blaming a president who left office nearly 40 years ago is a bit of a stretch.

It doesn't matter who did it. Its a problem that needs addressing and we are too poor to do so.

Are we winning yet?
