the neural networks are everything, lidar and vision are nothing without them.
this is where people heavily underestimate elon's first principles. Waymo has gone absolutely nowhere fast, they are geofenced, unscalable models. Elon is the godfather of electric vehicles in china (hence hated by Bannon), he pioneered the system in china and changed it forever, and stuck to his first principles regarding vision vs waymo.
straight from the chinaman, the next best driving systems:
Tesla is a generation ahead, and he got that conclusion by riding a cybertruck in who knows how old of a software version, many new iterations have gone through the months that have improved greatly.
vision alone is an advantage, less complexity to develop faster, it's the bare minimum needed, first principles..... even the chinese are figuring that elon was right all along, and because they were focused on Lidar, Tesla has an insurmountable lead, so Xpeng has decided to go vision only approach. Xpeng, Huawei, they would absolutely crush all other manufacturers in self driving, with the exception of Tesla, which inspired the entire chinese market.
Tesla is ahead, lol @ lagging behind, name the brands that beats it.
it may take a while, and promises may be delayed, 2019 was when I ordered the cybertruck, I got it eventually..... but you must have forgot
elon has brought science fiction to life before
ford, GM, VW, BMW, MBZ, Toyota, Honda, they're all at least a decade behind at this point and the lead is only growing for Tesla, once you can turn your EXISTING vehicle into a money making robotaxi, things are going to change big time, when liabilities turn into assets. We're only six days away from finding out if it's vaporware or not.
ROFL. Waymo does 250k driverless (as in there is no human in the driver's seat) rides per week. Tesla does 0.
