Social Trump to sign EO ending department of education today

I would usually be against decreasing investment in education but the kind of things they are teaching these days are appalling, so it's better to shut the whole thing down.

I honestly don’t know if this post is satire or not.

Sadly it will be the kids of parents who voted for trump who will have their schools defunded. Rich blue districts don't need federal grants.

Found it odd that the Dept of Agriculture is in charge of free school lunches

That’s an actual useful EO to impose you orange fuck

Whats the argument for not dismantling DOEducation? Not sure about all states but local property taxes fund most k-12 in my state. I don't really think DOE does a great job meeting their stated goals. We spent a 1/4 trillion dollars on DOE last year. Whats the net benefit? There are many schools where kids are not getting a quality education. Many schools are literally falling apart. Where is this money going?

What's the argument for DOGE not dismantling and restructuring the DEA with more efficiency?

- Billions of dollars wasted on cannabis enforcement when it should be reallocated to fentanyl
- Legal hemp loophole allows for the sale and consumption of unregulated and toxic gas station "weed" and mail order "marijuana"
- Kids are at risk, in many cases no ID enforcement
- Cartels and black market thriving
- People are dying because the "weed" they're consuming in states that are not recreational is not regulated, full of pesticides and toxins = increase in psychosis or hospital visits

WHERE IS ELON AND TRUMP?

Those are teacher salaries but doesn’t reflect what what schools are receiving or what students are paying. Teacher-student ratios and workloads in public schools are often unreasonable.
That's why I said per student spending. Average for private schools is $12,790 per student, average for public schools for 2021 was $14,347. DC is like $28,000 per student and they have the lowest literacy rates in the country.

Maybe in your state.

Go out into rural America and out of the suburbs. Property taxes do not even come close to being able to fund schools in these areas.

Also, even if property taxes are funding your schools budgets...the federal DOE is still dishing out grant money for improversished kids, special ed, and a whole host of other stuff. Literally, every school in the state is getting some form of federal grant money.

The only legitimate argument for dismantling the federal DOE is if they spread the responsibilities out to other agencies and keep a lot of those grants alive.

The funniest (and saddest) part of all this, is that it's likely to disproportionately affect poor red states that voted for this. It's funny, it's desk review season at my job. Every year we do desk reviews on CPA firms audit reports for state's school districts. The only districts that have money are the wealthier neighborhoods in the two large cities in my state. Outside of that, the financial statements are all in rough shape for virtually every other district with a few exceptions sprinkled in. And it's not like it's a mismanagement problem, it's just straight up underfunding.

I'm as rural as it gets. I wish our schools got money from the government. Its killing us in terms of property tax up here in Maine. Nearly 50% of property taxes along the coast go to funding the schools, its insane. Especially considering how poorly our schools have performed over the past 10 years. edit- and especially considering we are amongst the highest taxed people in the country.

I'm not saying its all to blame on the DOE , just not seeing what DOE does that really makes much sense.
