There really isn't precedence for it, but theoretically when they are ready to bring it to trial, they will bring it trial, regardless of whether or not he is president. Considering they haven't even formally announced the indictment (DOJ usually puts out a press release) and considering the amount of time which will be spent on selecting a jury and preparing for defense, I can't see this being done in less than a year and a half, let alone started.

Well yeah, because when has a president or former president ever been held accountable for crimes? They obviously all should, all being the key word there.

Well, partisans will always accuse presidents of the other party of being a criminal, but to actually pursue action, you need evidence of an actual crime. One of the reasons people (including many Republicans) opposed Trump's candidacy in the first place was the difficulties it would create to put someone of his character and history of behavior in power. It's not at all surprising that law enforcement has been thrust into the position of having to choose to either prosecute a guy who is beloved by many of the worst people in the country and the de facto leader of one of the two major parties or to just declare him to be above the law. Neither option is good, but the latter is far worse. Let's hope we learn a lesson from this and avoid such a bad decision going forward. Surely it's not impossible to find someone who will cut taxes for rich people and slash the safety net without also trying to destroy the country and abuse his power.
