WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith told lawmakers in a closed-door interview on Wednesday that his team of investigators “developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt” that President Donald Trump had criminally conspired to overturn the results of the 2020 election, according to portions of his opening statement obtained by The Associated Press.

He also said investigators had accrued “powerful evidence” that Trump broke the law by hoarding classified documents from his first term as president at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, and by obstructing government efforts to recover the records...

Smith was subpoenaed earlier this month to provide both testimony and documents as part of a Republican investigation into the Trump probes during the Biden administration.The former special counsel cooperated with the congressional demand despite having volunteered more than a month earlier to answer questions publicly before the committee, an overture his lawyers say was rebuffed by Republicans...

Trump told reporters at the White House that he supported the idea of an open hearing, saying: “I’d rather see him testify publicly. There’s no way he can answer the questions.”...

Republicans who control Congress have sought interviews with at least some individual members of Smith’s team. In recent weeks they have seized on revelations that the team, as part of its investigation, had analyzed the phone records of select GOP lawmakers from on and around Jan. 6, 2021, when pro-Trump rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol to try to halt the certification of Trump’s election loss to Biden.

I don't know why we need to make this seem a secret. He literally called up the Governor of Georgia to have him fabricate votes. Everyone knows this and the governor has said this much. I don't know why anyone thinks Trump won't try to undermine democracy as an institution as he has already tried that. You would have to be a retard to think that Jack Smith doesn't have definitive proof because it has all been out there in the public already for five years.

Hero seems a bit of a stretch, but certainly did a good job.

The bigger reason his work had no outcome is do to the fact that the JD waited so long to start their investigation and charge Trump.

That investigation was predicated though. We knew for a fact that there was a fake elector scheme and there was ample evidence of certain members of Congress being involved in it some way. The Arctic Frost investigation was signed off on by both FBI Director and AG.

Issuing a subpoena for those types of records (phone registries that list numbers called and don’t actually contain information on the conversations themselves) doesn’t violate any federal law nor is it unconstitutional. No judicial warrant is needed for these types of records (that was SCOTUS’s decision in a 1979 case called Smith v Maryland).

I find it very interesting that the main people behind this smear campaign against Jack Smtih are Sens Chuck Grassley and a senator from my state, the state where this entire fake elector scheme was hatched, Ron Johnson.
It was Ron Johnson who tried to hand the illegal fake elector certificates from WI to Pence to get Pence to accept them and read them out. Pence refused to accept them.
We have text messages from a top aide of Ron Johnson to Pence’s legislative director confirming this.


I think it’s clear what is happening here. Ron Johnson was unequivocally involved in illegal attempts to overturn the election, Jack Smtih’s team knew it, but now that Trump won the election and its MAGA Time, Ron Johnson is trying to use his position to smear Jack Smtih.

The Biden Administration clearly overstepped in even empowering Jack Smith, and then Jack Smith made it even worse with his paid informants, who were activists.
