Hiring someone (that shouldn't have been hired in the first place) and then firing them is not a net neutral action.
Imagine a medical practice hired someone who was obviously a quack, under the protests of nearly every doctor in the profession. The quack comes in, maims a few patients, and then is finally fired. The practice is not back to square one; it is worse off than it was in first place.

Well I can see the analogy, but firing him was a net good at this point.

Funny, I heard more people currently leaning right complaining about Bolton than left. It's like anybody establishment is favored by the left right now. That's fkn weird.

I think Trump feels as if he has to make concessions to the GOP old guard. On certain issues, like the trade war with China and the Twitter war with North Korea, I think its mainly coming from Trump. But when he's acting like any old Republican, like hiring Bolton, it seems to me like one of those concessions.

It’s an interesting question.

I don’t think he could be naive, because Bolton pretty much exclusively suggested bombing as a solution to, well, everything for at least the past decade (which is the relevant decade to which trump recognizes him from tv).

My initial thought was that he was brought in to play “bad cop”. In other words, adversaries would think twice about xxxx because ya know damn well Bolton’s response is “bomb them”.

I suspect John said something the made the Donald butthurt. Because if Bolton’s suggestions are a surprise, trump is in 300% dementia land.
