I wholeheartedly agree. He was actually really good. And this proelite fight was his last “serious” fight imo. He was in shape and was having some success but after this KO I think he pretty much just said fuck it. That’s more what I meant.I agree with you Travis was a weekend warrior but don't get me wrong he was actually very talented very tough very good amateur wrestling but he was never trying to become UFC champion.
Although I will say this I think you need to go back and watch that fight it was one of the few fights he actually trained like a professional for.
And he was doing very well until the KO.
Contrary to popular belief he actually did fight some very good talent .Whenever the opportunity came about.
Travis Wiuff, Mike Whitehead, Ricco Rodriguez, Ikuhisa Minowa, Jeremy Horn, Matt Lindland, Dan Severn, Dave Strasser
Fulton did fight in the UFC, twice. UFC 20 and 21.

He was also a pretty openly bigoted towards people of color and the LGBT community. That's probably the main reason the UFC didn't want to touch him.

I remember those fights cause i'm old and I was going to give TS shit but I wouldn't want to sift through an 8,000 fight record to double check either.
We can kinda give TS shit considering the combination of he was in the UFC and he was fighting Billy Joe John Clinton Dwight III behind uncle Bill's corner store every other Fri and Sat and every huge once in a while someone good. No disrespect to the blatant racist Travis, his record is insane, but he was never so good that he deserved more chances than he got or even to be in the UFC at all you could argue.
rickson was asking for too much money, they wanted him for ufc 1 but he said not for that money. then the gracies sent the smallest gracie at the time to show you dont need to be big to win a fight and that bjj is supreme.Rickson Gracie was 4000 and 0 and never fought for the UFC either.

He could have been a gatekeeper in the UFC, from 2000 to 2006 the UFC HW division was abysmal, all the great UFC HW's at the time moved onto other promotions, the only decent heavyweights left were Sylvia, Arlovski, Randy & Mir...then you had contenders like Cabbage, Wes Sims, Justin Eilers, Tra Telligman & Puel Buentello. Travis Fulton was defintely around there level....he actually has wins over Herring, Cabbage, Wes, Riggs...all of whom were considered good enough to be awared UFC contracts.Look at his career. Literally every single time he fought a moderately high level fighter, he lost. He got wrecked whenever he fought a UFC caliber fighter (Arlovski, Monson, Rothwell, Ricco Rodriguez, Forrest, Evan Tanner, Severn). The dude is a legend IMO based solely on his volume of fights, but you're kidding yourself if you think he was ever a UFC caliber fighter.
Funny cause Royler was actually smalller, Bout 5'8, 145.rickson was asking for too much money, they wanted him for ufc 1 but he said not for that money. then the gracies sent the smallest gracie at the time to show you dont need to be big to win a fight and that bjj is supreme.
perhaps was it also them wanting to send the youngest at the time?? i think i remember a narrative like that, and thats why it was royce.Funny cause Royler was actually smalller, Bout 5'8, 145.
