I wouldnt call Gaethje a bum brawler though he starts fighting like one at times. But in this particular instance he had compromised vision with both eyes having been poked, broken nose, totally gassed and went into bum brawler mode out of desperation. Nobodys giving Justin credit for accepting Maxs invintation to bang (which was a bit of an asshole move, since Justin was so clearly compromised and done and had nearly 0 chance of pulling out a KO, but had to accept because the "warrior image"). This finish is so overpraised its annoying

I don't see why anyone should give Justin credit for accepting the invitation to bang to be honest. Like you said he was already badly compromised and gassed anyway. He knew he was losing, and it was his last chance to snatch the victory. Most fighters would have taken that opportunity.

The guy that's been hit the most out of anyone in the UFC can't also be the best boxer in the UFC

Yair's kicking game and unconventional stuff (spinning shit, elbows, etc...) was giving Max trouble. Max's boxing hasn't been the problem for him, even in his losses. It's the kicking (Yair) and the kicking (mostly leg kicks) and grappling (Volk).

Max won the Yair fight. I don't think you can reasonably argue it. I would concede that Max probably lost the striking battle when they were standing. Yair did a very good job in the fight.

If we are talking relative to actual high level boxer standards yeah, by MMA standards his hands (and chin) genuinely are top tier.

I’ve been a huge Boxing fan since the late 80’s ….Topuria Boxing offensively and especially defensively looks much better then Max boxing for me …..But Max makes it work his record speaks for itself

The best pure boxing for MMA belongs to DP, IMO.

Ilia -even his team will say so off the record- is heavily lacking in the kicking game.
Surprisingly, at least for me, he did pretty well in that regard against Volk. Better than Volk, actually.
But that fight was veeeeery slow paced compared to the Volk vs Max or Volk vs Yair bouts.

Max strikes me (wink, wink) as a better MMA puncher.

Yes, he gets hit a lot. But, also, he uses to outland his opponents* by far.
He has proven against JG he CAN be clinical and calculated, even in a BMF clash lol (10 last seconds aside).

I expect a very defensive aware Max against Top.

The amount of people downplaying max in here is ridiculous, and I'm not even a max fan. All you people calling him a brawler that gets by because of his chin are crazy.

A glorified brawler wouldn't be outstriking their opponents. He engaged in brawls with KZ and Gaethje in fights he was already winning, for our entertainment.

This is a coin flip fight. Either guy can win. By MMA standards, both Max and Ilia have good boxing. Ilia's may more technical and adhere to traditional boxing standards, and is more powerful, but Max mixes in more pressure and pace, so it works for him. Holloway has also opted to use his underrated kicking game recently which he didn't integrate into his offense that much on his ascent earlier in his career, another facet of his skill set he can possibly implement in this fight.

At the end of the day, Topuria is talking his shit like he normally does, which is all wolf tickets. He'll likely walk it back when face to face like he did with Volkanovski during their face off at the pre-fight presser. As always, WAR Max.
