Rumored Tom Aspinall vs Alex Pereira for UFC 300 main event? *MERGED*

Would this fight be worthy to headline UFC 300?

Card is 2 months away and they still havent announced main event

UFC is dying. No more superstars. Sad.

I can't believe that this is the fight they're choosing.
Its a historic card and they think an interim belt is the best fight to main event it?

Smfh at these cats.
It fits the established pattern of 300 though.

Of all the fights on the card, only Weili vs Yan has any divisional relevance whatsoever.

Every other fight is just thrown together, makes no sense, and does nothing for either fighter. Especially on the maincard.

Well, What can you do?

Islams on ramadan
Pantoja probably in brazil the month after
Volk this month
Omalley in march
DDP just fought 3 weeks ago, Still hurt
Jones tore his Pec
Edwards will fight in the O2 in June (prediction)
At least this fight is a lineal Champion fighting an interim champion. It's kinda like the HW version Of Max vs Dustin 2

Terrible fight. Tom is a fast, big man. He's gonna take Alex down, and he's not getting back up.

Difference is Jon prepared himself to win and it paid off. Respect to Pereira for challenging himself but this is just for a payday, very good chance he doesn't make it out of the first round if he does fight Aspinall.
Absolutely. I still have to give credit to Pereira for making the most of the time he has left in the sport and for being such a badass. I have tremendous respect for guys that aren't afraid to step into the danger zone without having to meditate on things for years and hedge their bets to "get the win". He's just going for it.

This fight really doesn't make any sense at all.

Seems like they could do Aspinall vs. Gane maybe? Maybe Alex vs. Hill if he is ready? Maybe Alex/Izzy at LHW?

another dumb champ champ fight to stall divisions. This isnt even an interesting one

I've said it before but as long as Jones is around they can't risk the chance of wrapping another interim belt around Gane lol. Better off if they wait to make Aspinall vs Gane until after Jones likely retires by the end of the year.

The UFC should just name this card 299.1 and the one after it 299.2 until they book a card you guys all like so you can stop fucking whining about this shit, lol.

UFC 200 had Tate in a fucking headliner and Silva against Cormier off of surgery. It isn't like any of you are going to pay for this shit anyway, lol.

Except Jones was supposed to retire after fighting Stipe. Which was supposed to be at MSG LAST November. So he wouldn’t have fought at 300 if he didn’t get injured.

Let’s not rewrite history here even more in favour of lowlife Jones.
Okay...? Congrats that a make belief UFC 300 could've had an undisputed title defence.

In today's actual reality they can't as Jon's not fighting until July because that's when he's injured to. Thus a HW title defence by him at UFC 300 is impossible, but an interim title defence by Aspinall is not.

Thanks. Was trying not to be that guy today..

300 is just another number. These posters acting like they're owed something is crazy.

It's the Real belt. Jones is going to retire after fighting stipe he will be promoted to HW champ.

He will be just as real of a Champ as Barao or Whittaker.

Jones Will probably see Alex as an easy fight because of his grappling advantage. This gives Alex a decent chance of Getting Jones to fight him. If anyone, ANYONE can outsmart Jones on the Feet and set up a KO with far superior Striking it is Alex. Obviously the grappling gap is enormous, but Jon has always had problems with taller rangey strikers. Alex is the Best tall rangey striker ever. Period.

Interesting take.

Obviously, I am a fan ...

But I think "beating DDP" (who beat Strickland, who beat Adesanya), and then leaving MW as Champion ...

Then "beating Hill" then "beating Ankalaev" ... to solidify his claim for being A REAL LHW Champion ...

Is a better entry into the HW division ... than "leaving MW as a loser," winning LHW twice, then "going for HW."

True fight historians look at longevity.

Of course, Alex is too fresh in MMA, and now too old, to really have a dominant run ... but he may be able to win at least 5x at LHW, after leaving MW as Champ.

Even if he moves up, at least establishing himself as absolutely solid, in MW and LHW (and then trying HW) is a better move, historically, than "winning a couple" in each division.

People who won't pay for shit whining about the free, stacked card they've been given since they're going to stream it. Funny. If it was UFC 301, these guys would be busting nuts about it. Yet, they're upset at these matchups despite some of them wanting Conman/Chandler to headline, lol.

Don't even get me started on how good 298 and 299 are. Nothing is ever good enough.

Jesus Christ.

This would be great fight. Alex I believe has always had this in mind and so has UFC. What the heck, I'm picking Poatan as three division champion.

Why though? Book a fight that makes sense. He fought only once at LHW
