Besides the whole eye poking debacle, we have to remember that the first round was the round that Gane was gonna try to survive, basically. And then he could possibly find his rhytm and start to get the better of Tom.That was the talk leading into the fight.

That's why Gane actually getting the better of Tom in the first round is somewhat of a big deal. Even if he was only slightly getting the better of Tom.

You're a good poster, always been cool to me. And yeah, obviously people who win the first rd. Get knocked out, submitted, or out-hustled down the stretch all the time, no arguments there.

But no one is saying he was done bc of a bloody nose, or that they think a bloody nose is a reason to write Tom off.
But its a clear indicator that nothing he did was working, and he's not really proven in the 2nd- 5th rounds.

Kind of a whataboutism with clearly different context. Joe B is the one who initiated the clash of heads in his case while Gane is a serial cheat. Joe was not under nearly the same amount of scrutiny, and he also did immediately blame the foul for the loss, so I guess he's just a whiner too, yeah? The major difference is just in perception, being that Tom had the above mentioned scrutiny leading to much more publication and criticism compared to Joe, and as Joe's foul did not include lingering damage, the rematch was confirmed just 2 months later, so there was no additional drag out time for more press, more criticism, and more response to criticism
