Todays photo of 185lbs Nick Diaz

Since when is the UFC fair ? What is fair about the UFC?

These guys bring in money, their fights are watched by millions so they get to do things others are not allowed to.

How is this surprising ? Are you 12 ?
I didn't say I'm surprised. Don't mean I gotta like it. Are you happy now? Are you 12?

Nick made it pretty clear today he really doesn't want to fight again and has resentment for MMA in general.

"All the people around me and all the money and the sponsors, they won't let me get away from fighting," Diaz said. "There's things I could do, but that's not gonna work out. I might as well just go and take my punches. ... I don't want to look back and say, 'Why did I not just do it?' I don't feel great. I feel great to fight. I don't feel great about everything [else]. If I don't do this, I don't know how I'm going to feel about myself."

Diaz, 38, said during his time off he had plans to open a gym and teach students, and maybe even travel around some and do seminars. But he said things didn't work out with the business partners he was dealing with and that the plans were "fake." That is what led him back to fighting.

"It's just what I do," Diaz said. "I tried to get away from it, but really it's just kind of inevitable."

...

"I'm going in there to win," Diaz said of Saturday's bout against Lawler. "Do I feel confident? I never do. I never have. I always feel like I'm going to get trashed out there. Every fight I've ever done. 'How do you feel against Robbie Lawler?' I feel like I'm going to get the s--- beat out of me. And even when I win, I get beat up worse"

This is short but worth reading / watching.
welp, can honestly say I am not nearly as excited for this fight now. pretty sad seeing a legend get fucked over this badly and this late in life.

For what its worth, Nick has expressed this type of conflict for a long time, going all the way back to his Strikeforce days. He gave some real candid interviews before fighting Penn as well.

Its particularly depressing to see his mind state now approach 40 and being clear he does NOT want to cage fight this weekend, but feels like its his only option. He's a grown man so I realize he's making his own decisions, but it doesn't make me more excited to see it for sure.

He honestly doesn't look very good, especially shadow boxing clip.

I remember when we used to be cool with each other
I woke up.

Why dont you?

You are an asset. An expendable asset, and I used you to get the job done, got it??!

Coming off a 5 or so year layoff and beating a guy who has lost his last 4 in a row, well it wouldn't make logical sense would it? This is MMA though, anything can happen

It doesn't need to make logical sense, it needs to make business sense, which it does.

Nick fought GSP coming off a loss. Conor was going to be next in line for a title shot at LW with a win over washed up Cowboy at WW.

How is he getting fucked over? He's in a better position than 99% of people out there.

I don't know how the pity party, victim stuff doesn't annoy other people. The dude hasn't had a job in like 10 years and still has pretty good options to make quick money.

Huh? If someone gets defrauded or robbed, but manages to bounce back, the injury done to them doesn't count?

The stuff about him getting lied to about traveling and his plans being fraudulent. Probably lost a lot of money because of moochers and assholes. And I bet his drug addiction did a really good job warping his mind into thinking those people were friends. Getting screwed over like that early in life is easier to bounce back from than later in life, and it seems like he realized that and now has to fight for money. He probably has a ridiculous mortgage and bills that a normal burger flipping job couldn't pay for.

I think you make a fair point, but I'd like to add, getting brain damage from Robbie Lawler is how we're describing 'quick money' here.

Nick has a mutilated face if you didn't notice, this is the hurt business. Its taking quality and years off their lives, so it comes with a lot of baggage, even if we as fans don't see it every day.

Considering the fact that he's 38 and has been fighting for two decades, he actually looks pretty good to me.

Yeah he's older, but many fighters look a lot worse before even reaching 38. It helps his opponent isn't the youngest himself.
He didnt do much this past decade.
